    Availability of petrol in SI?

    Just got a question?

I'm riding down the South island next Wednesday morning.
Being precise, I'm getting the 2.25am - 5.35am ferry to Picton, riding to Blenheim, refill and riding to Hokitika. Now I'm taking the road that takes me through Inangahua down through Reefton and then Greymouth onwards to Hoki.

Question is, can I get fuel before Reefton at the hours of 6-8am as it's 250km from Blenheim to Reefton and that stretches the range of my Guzzi to the absolute max (even riding it sedately).
My back-up plan is to take a few extra litres of fuel but really don't want to do that if I can help it.

    Whatya reckon?

I would have said St Arnaud would be your best bet...but pre-8am? Dunno.

Currently trying to find out more about the fuel in Kaikoura, somewhere near South Bay.

nudemetalz, I suggest you print off a shortlist of the south island from the excel sheet, to help you, when travelling. I try to keep it as up to date as possible, but can't be everywhere

edit: Subike, I don't seem to have Murchison in the excel sheet. Can you provide address, brand, is the place actually open, or just credit card/eftpos whatever?

That way Murchison would be the bet. Should be open early......
Another option is thru the Lewis.
Springs Junction has fuel - I am unsure of their hours but as its the main/only route through the middle then I suspect it's open early.

    Mobil Murchison
(Cnr Waller & Fairfax Street) Fairfax Street Murchison Tasman

I know it has mobil card and efpos , but cannot find the hours it is open or if it is 24/7, but for fleet card, it probably has a 24/7 deisel card pump for trucks

I know diesels are rather rough, but you've got a Guzzi now, so you won't notice it.

    Glad to help.

You might want to convert your bike to run on coal, The south island is a bit behind the times.
Well so I have been told.

You are correct - get out of Christchurch and prices rise. On a recent trip Tekapo was 6c a litre dearer that CHCH.

Plus if anyone stops at Springs junction I advise you to keep your gear on - you could ride the sandflies there!
