Question Taking my GT250 to Battle of the Street?

    Some advice please...

I've been invited for a ride up to Paeroa to see Battle of the Streets in February 2010.

I'm keen, and now that I've been riding for a year, think that I'm up for the challenge. My question is, would my bike be up for it as well?

I have a 2007 Hyosung GT250. For those of you that are familiar with it, it has no trouble keeping up with motorway traffic. I'm just not sure what I'd be in for taking it from Wellington to Paeroa.

    Any advice??

    Peice of piss mate

    Just take these spares :

    • Spare clutch cable
    • Wire splicer to bypass standswitch
    • Some Muc Off for your Helmet Visor
    • Sheepskin for the seat + Scalf

Oh and do not travel at night, The headlight is puss as you might have experienced.

I used to own one and it was a great little bike.

    Sorted!

Great reply - thanks. I remember taking the bike out for 2 hours one day, and made a mental note to do something about the seat.

Wasn't planning on doing any night riding - you're right about the headlight.

I still have the factor fitted tyres - should I do something about them? I haven't heard good stories about them.

I've done Auckland to Wellington before and the GT250r handled it without a hiccup. The only thing you'll need to keep en eye on is the weather, and follow Leyton's advice and avoid driving at night at this time of year if you can.

Daylight hours are in short supply especially if you plan to avoid frosty starts so you may be best to allow for a nights stay in case you need it.

edit: oops reading skills are obviously not my forte. February tends to be rather warm.

Well in February it would be rather hot I'd think.

Easy as. Bikes are made to be ridden!

Most definitely. Have peace of mind
I believe the GT250 does have enough power to cruise at motorway speeds but even have enough power to overtake at ease.

And like someone said above, avoid riding at night. Those Hyosung lights are piss poor (Oh right didn't read your 2nd post).

If you can make it on Kiwibiker you can make it anywhere.

I thought you were planning on racing it.......

    No trouble at all mate.

Throw those tyres away sooner rather than later. Plently of people here have had those bikes, so can tell you what tyres work well.

I also taught u were asking about racing it ...

the hayo will be sweet as man. When I had my hayo, I have done numerous days touring on myne on variety of roads ranging from huge limestone gravel to mud and what not. you will be fine.

one thing I'd advise you to get is maps, and sort out your accomodation at least 3 months prior to the races, as many people even book a year in advance.

Hell, yeah! I've been to New Plymouth and back to Whakatane and also from Whakatane to Coromandel and back.... on the dreaded Shinko's no less. Ride to the conditions and take plenty of breaks and you'll be sweet.

Another vote for the Hyo. Do it, they're great on trips - will sit on 100-120k all day. Just slow down on wet roads, and slow RIGHT down for heavy rain or just park up until the rain backs off. The shinko tyres are not to be trusted in the wet.

Get a perm Doug! No seriously take it, its all good. I did Welly to National Park on my VTZ and many other trips. You'll have fun just take a break when you need one.

harden up and just get out there..

my first bike was an ER 125, i took it to auckland and back from nelson, sat on 110k all the way there and back.. via east cape and the naki....

so a modern hyper 250 should do the trip easily!!!

    what a ride so far!!!!

Thanks everyone. Looks like I have plenty of time to prepare. I'm loving the bike, so am more than comfortable taking it up north with your recommendations on board.

    Cheers
