Anyone in Palmy willing to check out a bike for beer?

There's a little ole Hornet in Palmerston North that I'm interested in on trademe and was wondering if anyone with a bit of bike knowledge would be able to check it out for me.

Just the usual really, forks, shocks, chain, sprockets, funny noises that I shouldn't be there etc. Oh, one thing is the little "oil overflow" thing underneath the bike where oil from the engine runs through the air filter and get recycled back through to the engine. This will need to be taken off (usually just pull off) and checked to see how much oil comes out. A little bit of a drip is ok but if it's really goin for it, it means the rings are gone which means no sale!

Mate, you don't know how the SMC works.

My car's spare tyre well is filled with beer.

Because face it, if you have a flat at 2AM in the middle of fucking nowhere in the rain, you aren't going to swap the tyre. No, you're going to get pissed in the nice dry car and let it sort itself out in the morning.

Don't do it this way, dude. It just ends in tears. Believe me. Engaging an amateur for payment to do a job that thousands of your own dollars ride on the quality of is bad business for you and a great way to fuck up friendships.

My (very strong) advice is to book a mechanical check at a professional workshop in PN (one of the natives can recommend one, I'm sure) and have the seller take the bike there for inspection.

Re earlier post: There is truth in it, but you can only expect someone to give their opinion nothing more. But what if the sellers mate sees this on KB and takes you up on the offer...

Contact ragingrob for a reference as I wrote a report for an fxr for him a while back. I also happen to be work-challenged at the moment so have plenty of time. You jack it all up and tell me where and when and I will take it for a ride and scribble something down for ya.

I understand what you're getting at, all I need is someone that knows a bit about bikes to give it a going over. Main thing to look at is that little oil reservoir so I know the engine is all sweet. other stuff is all exterior and most riders will know what to look for when it comes to pads, tyres, chain etc.

At the end of the day it's on my head... if I fly down and the bike is a shitter i'll turn right around and go back without it.

I am seriously considering getting a pro to give it a good going over though.
