When 30 000 people flock to see a hockey game then yes, I do think some of the revenue should be allocated to development and junior teams.

you cant get 30000 people in to watch a hockey game unless its on tv as hockey isnt played in stadiums (at least here)...NZ needs to put more money into sports other than rugby, and after watching the game last night we arnt even to good at that, In world terms Rugby is about as popular as sycronised swimming. As far is im concerned if your representing your country, your country picks up the tab, NZ played Australia for 3/4 last night and lost 2.0. The Aussie team was fully funded

Tend to agree Jimmy, made worse by the fact that its so easy for bludgers to live full time off the welfare system in this country.A little off topic i know but the moneys got to come from somewhere and cutting back on the flagrant abuse of that would be a start to finding money for worthy causes.

Yeah I agree on both points. It needs to be a more marketable game though because even with loads of government funding, it'll need to be something people are willing to pay to watch if it's going to be anything like rugby or netball. I'd pay to see some indoor hockey! It's a bit of a blood-sport

    What a surprise..... NOT!!

My daughter used to play hockey. It's an awesome spectator sport! National teams, IMO, should be funded from a National level.

I wouldn't. I'd rather I didn't have to pay a more than $1500 per child for a state school education every year. I'd rather other people didn't have to either.

Amateur sports should be club funded by donation, fees, and fund-raising.

Health and education should get a primary focus over everything else. Tax payers should not be funding either professional OR amateur sporting events or sports teams.

Amatuer sports pay there own way - no way do I want to pay for them. That goes for motorcycle racers too - do it yourself,I'm not helping.

take away the millions we pay bludgers every year and schooling, hospitals and sports would be fully funded

I guess you are a great supporter of the $200 million dollar Dunedin Stadium then, as it will be supporting the elite of NZs sportsmen.

Of course, it will cost each ratepayer $660 for its first ten years.

Some ratepayers may prefer that they get to use that money for their own needs, rather than the rugby unions, but hey that's democracy.

Personally, I think I pay too much tax already without buying stadiums and world trips for sportsmen.

fuck 200 million it will cost 400 million by the time its finished and im not a supporter of the stadium as its a rugby only venue as far as im concerned there is nothing wrong with carisbrook which the DCC has just bought for 7 million......the money our government spent buying the wharf area to turn it into "party central" in auckland would fund sportsmen for years.
