    Biker Ego

I saw it again, tonight, coming over the Greenhithe motorway.

Came on and saw, about a click ahead, a dude on a bike. He was pootling at lawful speed. I hove up to within half a click and he went a bit faster.

By the bottom of the bridge the traffic had come to a near standstill. He started lane-splitting. So did I.

Then I turned left an used the wide open stuff. Suddenly, he was behind but came into my track and followed.

We got to the next left-hander, with a wide strip in the middle. I saw him come. He passed. Like he 'had' to pass.

Funny old thing, biker ego and being passed.
    Only 'Now' exists in reality.

I think it is one of those maturity things.

If I see someone with a better bike than I have I admire it and give the thumbs up to the rider. I have witnessed so much jeallousy from owners of inferior models.

I guess I must be similar in some ways to your guy, but I would say that it is not the bikes, but the riders. I actually prefer to follow someone moving at a good pace. It is certainly a lot safer.

I ride an "inferior" model though its by choice,no jealousy from me but much satisfaction tucking in behind those on superior models.

I quite enjoy seeing how long I can keep up with the bigger bikes.

Had a similar thing today, a local contractor pulled out of a driveway on woodcocks rd (the Warkworth end) which was ok, he was about 100mts ahead of me, I was sitting on about 120, thought I would crack passed him on the straight that we were on, but no, he reached 130 and increasing. Wasn't long that we were doing (well lets just say had there been a police person around we would both be walking) my ego aint big enough that I need to prove a point.

I don't mind being passed. It's just a matter of time before they are not concentrating, and oops, they get passed hehe. It's important it's just a game, and not life and death.

I went for a slide along the motorway once because a biker was talegating me while lane spliting once! I had my L plate on, wen i saw him, i indicated left to merge into the trafic and let him pass, but he cudn't wait (musta been busting for the loo or something) and clipped my mirror in passing! I got such a fright i turned my handlebars sharply out of the way and (especially since it was wet) my bike and i went for a slide along the motorway! I got a nice scar on my hip and my bike is scratched up. Bastard didn't even stop (he shuda seen me come off if he looked in his mirror after he clipped me).

I don't mind racing or hooning behind a bigger bike in traffic, but hell, not cutting it so close or being dangerous!

I confess; if I see another bike ahead, I like to catch up, just to see who /what it is and give a wave!
