connector on the bike. It flashes for me when it has to be switched over to reserve. It is connected to the inside of the left lobe on the tank, dunno about the low oil light though. The FI isn't of course connected - Fuel Injection.

you could... i think the vector is also minus other features.... you can have oil lights etc still on a vapor, i bought the extra dashboard surround... has lights for indicators..... neutral.... oil.... and high beam.

I will get the dashboard as well. The measurement of it fits almost perfect for the length but is a little smaller in height so I will have a bit of a gap at the top.
I think it comes with 8 lights but you can only choose four. One of them is reverse too..lol That would be handy...
I really just need speed and odometer, so the extra bit for the Tacho etc isn't needed.

Can you tell me where this goes on the bike, I think it gathers the fuel cables or similar and is on the left side of the bike?
I have the manual, the spare parts, photos of the bike but it isn't anywhere to be seen. My mechanic left it hanging when I picked the bike up a few months ago and want to put it back on, it secures somewhere...

Have a look a tour bike and can you explain where please? many thanks.....Crazyfrog told me but I didn't understand fully..
Wondered if it served the same purpose as this (bolted to the cam chain tensioner). Effectively a cable & tube tidier. Otherwise, can't really see anything obvious.

That isn't it as I have this in place. Thanks Steve, it might not be on yours as it is 2003.

    After much debate and looking...

I have decided to keep the original speedo as they look cool, glowing orange at night.
I have tried unsuccessfully to see if it can be repaired.
I thought as a longshot I could see if there were some wreckers over in Aussie that had one, but it seems nobody has hit a Roo or a Baobab tree lately, so that was a dead end.
I called the USA yesterday and managed to find a brand new one for $301.25 USD, plus approx $60 for shipping. This was by far the cheapest anywhere including NZ and Aus. NZ - $1018, Aus - $850 AUD delivered.
So you see, the Vapour unit would be good if this is how much it is going to cost me.
As another longshot I placed a post on KTM Talk and last night I finally got a reply from a guy in Melbourne. He has two, unbelievable!
One of them has a broken lens, so as long as it works he said I can buy it off him. I have sent him a PM and we will wait as he is sending me some photos of it.
He wants $300 AUD, so at the end of the day I would be spending over $300 anyway for a vector unit and dashboard. This way I might get the working unit, plug it in and away I go....
Don't know what the mileage is, that's immaterial at this stage.

Have found out that the temp sensor, the oil light are not connected as stated earlier, so thanks for that. The low fuel sensor works on my bike, the FI isn't connected as you would expect.

I know this isn't a wiring loom issue as there was a 640e parked at the bike shop one day. When I took the unit there, I plugged it into the bike. Still blank but lit up just the same as mine.

So, NZKTM may have a working speedo one of these days soon....
Hope this fella is decent and he sends me a good one, working and doesn't take the money and run....

Do you know if the lens come off? Or will you have to grind it out?
Agree the the stock speedo looks cool, and that this will be better on your bike.
The mileage issue was discussed on the Advrider.com site a while ago. The concensus from the gurus was that they can't be changed.

The lens, which I hope is the screen he is talking about comes off, yes...
The speedo contains about 16 screws, it separates once the screen is off and is held by a belt that goes to the LCD screen.
As for the mileage, I don't care what it has done, the best thing would be to have a working one again that I can see the black numbers.

If the face is cracked, no issue, but if it is the lens of the LCD display then it will be useless as it is a one piece unit with the tape etc, all soldered together.

I have to find out more when he sends photos...

I have had the dash off so many times, taken things apart from the back, I could do it blindfolded, yes......seriously....

The speedo unit is held with four screws, undo the face, and then it is another four, then another four smaller ones to split the unit....On and on it goes....

No issues with GPS for Warrant of Fitness either. I gave them a call this morning and she will be sweet for Friday now....
The guy from Melbourne said everything works on the spare, just 10000Km on the clock and the face is cracked, that is all.....

Good news then, might just get it if I sell some stuff on Trade Me....Like TV, DVD player and toys....

    Well...

I got up early to work on the bike this morning. My second hand replacement speedometer arrived from Melbourne. I posted on KTM talk and it was a one in a million shot. After a few weeks a bloke had one, a spare on he crashed while riding and broke the faceplate.
They cannot be replaced, you got to have the whole unit....Doh...

I plugged it in and took the face plate off my one. I now have a working speedometer! Yes......

I had to go online to change the wheel size from 17 inch to 21 inch but found out how eventually. They don't tell you in the manual....

So, all good and it works a treat too. Now, all I have to do is find a electronic whizz that can look at the spare one to see what the issue is?

Anyone keen or know of anybody that can work on a 12 volt speedo without it being on a bike?

Thanks for you comments and support, I knew it was the LED but had to eliminate wiring first etc....

Yeah damn annoying that. How hard would it have been to include that in the manual? Have to unplug the power wire to access the wheelsize on the 525.

Can you give me any more details please? Like their pedigree etc....thanks.
Would be good to get it done, worth spending a $100 or so to get an idea as to what it is....
