    KTM 530exc?

    Morning everyone…

A quick intro…I’m Karl, 35, living in Dubai, moving to NZ and I like bikes

I have ktm 530 exc, all plated and road legal etc… it’s a beautiful bike, I’ve owned it since sept 08 and its got 1000 km’s on it and 20 hrs on the clock…and with the weather here, it doesn’t see a lot rain.. so its still pretty shiney and new.

Obviously I’ve got lots to sort with the move, but first things first…. The bike. Due to massive expat exodus, bikes here are being given away free with cereal at the moment.. I’d lose so much money, its really not worth selling.

so I’m planning on putting it the container with me. I’ll probs use it for a few weeks to commute on and then just use is it for dual sporting (or maybe some supermoto it).

    So my questions are…

Is a ktm 530 exc a suitable bike for NZ dualsporting?
Is there good support for ktm’s in NZ and / or a dealer in chch.
Anyone have any idea how much it would cost to replace with a similar bike if I here.?

    Thanks for your help

I posted it in this forum as I reckon you guys probably know most about these particular bikes..

    Mornin' Karl...

You would probably get a good response in the Off Road section, too. The EXC range straddles both markets. I have a mate with an '07 525 that may be selling his supermoto stuff soon.

A good place to look at bike prices is Trade Me (kiwi version of eBay) or MotorcycleTrader or bikemart.co.nz. If it isn't going to cost you much to bring it as well, then it sounds like you should bring it with you. If you are immigrating then the bike will be GST-exempt.

Support for KTM is okay, there are maybe 15 dealers around the country.
    Cheers,
    Colin

    thanks for the reply...

main thing is being able to get hold of parts for me..i've suffered in the middle east having to fly a lot of stuff in (its just getting better now).

but its a pain in the ass waiting for some tiny widget and it meaning you cant go out to play.

Gidday. There is a KTM dealer here in Chch - Superior Motorcycles. Not a KTM owner myself (yet) so don't know a lot about their reputation/service. There are organised trail rides at least every month or more often around the Canterbury plains and a few braided gravel and silt riverbeds to play in.

the plan at the moment is a couple of yrs in chch and then just see really. I've got a boy who's 18 mths, so lots of running aorund and out doorsey stuff with some bike squeezed in when I have the appropriate pass from the missus

the landscape looks fantastic and very different from what i'm riding in here... so all in all, it should be quite an experience.

I've recently purchased a KTM525Exc for adventure/dual sport riding, Very capable bike and fast. can go anywhere as opposed to the XT600e I had previously. Plenty of good places to ride one in NZ. Bring it, you won't be disapointed.

    they AED 35,000 new = NZ$15000

and i reckon i'd get maybe AED 25,000 (NZ$11,000) for mine if i had to sell it.

i think theres lots of odds and ends of fees to ship it, but i think it'll be worth it. I'm just ordering an ignition switch for it. At the moment it just has a starter button and might pop a bigger tank on.

    Thanks guys

Those prices aren't too dissimilar to here in NZ.
A new 530 costs $14,995 off the shelf with a few extra KTM Hardparts goodies thrown in, including an Akrapovic pipe.
You stand to lose around $2000 as soon as you wheel it out of the showroom. There still very new here, but plenty of 525 EXC's around, parts shouldn't be a problem, good KTM parts support in NZ.
Anything else can also be obtained from the USA (ktm.parts.com) and shipping very fast.
If you're bringing a container of household effects, bring the bike in the same container to save shipping costs, as you won't be disappointed with the quality of riding here, always somewhere good locally to ride, just ask around.
