    Numbers first then characters????.

I think it is a little more than that, according to my calculations (which could be wrong)
If they use all 26 letters in the alphabet, there are 17576 combinations to each two digit number, i.e. there are 17576 different possible plates between 67ZZK and 68ZZK. There are still 32 two digit numbers between 67 and 99 so that is 32 x 17576 = 562432 possible combinations left before they run out.
That is not going to happen anytime soon.

There are 1.7 million possible plates with that pattern.

Shit, if we have really used them all up, we really have been crashing a lot of bikes in NZ haven't we?

I heard that the new plates were going to start with a single 'A' followed by numbers.

This reminds me of a cartoon that appeared around Y2K. A bunch of blokes sitting around in New Testament-looking clothes. One says: "Gentlemen, it's 4 BC, do you know what that means? In 4 years we're going to run out of dates!"

Yeah a piss off that if you want a personalised bike one it's stuck on 5. Plus it's the same horrific price. Consequently I don't have one.

Ahh, but divide that by about 50 years. Also consider all those scooters around the place.

11AAA is the current motorcycle series, now nearly kaput.
111AA is an earlier series for tractors and trailers, kaput.
1AAA1 is a trailers series, kaput or close to it
AAA11 is part of the current series for cars, which allows letter/number combinations from 4 to 6 characters, and which will take some time to become kaput.
