    Weather

We are going out for a short holiday very soon - hopefully flying the 8th April. We plan to tour the South Island Christchurch, down the coast to Dunedin, accross to Queenstown and up the coast to West port and accross via Hamner springs and back to Christchurch.

What is the weather likely to be like at this time of year as we are trying to decide what to pack and what are the night time temperatures likely to be.

Too hard to answer it can be cold and warm - It can change daily from one side of the alps to the other - pack warm woolies and your UK kit - and some tee shirts and shorts as well.

And upgrade your wet weather gear. It is reasonably rare for it not to rain somewhere in fiordland - Milford sound gets 9 METRES of rain per annum but the roads are well worth it.

Buy some Icebreaker merino gear. It packs up nice and small, doesn't smell if you have to wear it for a couple of days, but keeps you really nice and warm -- even if it gets wet. And you can wear several layers of the stuff without adding too much bulk.

Weather will be typical New Zealand - all seasons each week on about an 8 day weather cycle, so as those above have said - be prepared.

You are covering a fair bit of ground and in NZ the weather be raining and the next fithy miles sunny. April you are in our Autumn. Stunning down Cental Otago, Queenstown etc with the autumn colours. Brilliant warm days but the nights will be chilly. Take a good woman and warm sleeping bag if planning to camp out. Keep the good woman either way.

Slowly starts to get that the best time for travel is between 10am and 4pm, unless the weather is having a winters day spat, then it dont matter.
