    Martinborough Enduro

I was going to compete in my first enduro of the year - signed up, paid my money and allocated number 11b. 30 mins from the start one of my fellow competitors noticed the KLX back brake pad had fallen out of caliper also no meat left on the pad so I withdrew my entry and went out with the trail riders.
Sometimes what seems like bad luck is actually a stroke of good fortune - the track was very slippery and challenging as the attached photos I took show.
Some of the last racers didn't get back till after sunset and the sweep crew had to go out after dark to rescue a rider who ran out of gas. I hope he was alright as it was getting pretty cold out there.
My Mate Brent finished the course but houred out by 2 minutes.
I stopped on the course to help another mate who lost his chain - after an hours searching he found it and I provided a spare master link. He continued on and won his class for the event and the central series.

Well done, those pic's look fairly representative of that part of the country after rain. What was the total distance for the enduro? I was all keen to do it but got crook friday and couldnt make it through as I was enfeebled with a cold. Thought it would be a tough one, nice downhill that. A few people show up for the ride? I dont care how hot i get this time of the year while riding, I always wear a polyprop underneath my pressure suit in case of a critical failure with the machine.

The track was 140km consisting of 2 loops repeated - probably too far for intermediates considering the conditions also times tightened up by 20 mins on second loops.
It was a really good turnout this year with plenty of trail riders too (over 50 I reckon)
The base was slippery clay covered in slime and lots of deep sloppy ruts

cheers for the pics. looks like it was a blast. love the photo of the steamy river crossing failure LOL. I was looking for a ride over to this (to take photos) but couldn't find someone who was going over (after secondfield pulled out). If i PM ya before the next one and you're going to it, is there a chance i can catch a ride with ya?

Better yet let us know on the forum what events you're doing and i'll do the same

if it wasn't wet that would have been a great ride. my mate and i did the trail ride but we were both getting over colds and had year old tyres on so we wern't in the best of shape.

gotta have respect for the guys riding the enduro, racing in those conditions takes some pretty awesome skillz.
