I don't see why not. As long as you can get a WOF for it. You'll need the normal things like mirrors, indicators, breaks, etc.

The LTSA does not normally take a logical approach to such matters.

Yes you can,but has to registered as a Class 13 exempt or something,it will allow you to use it as a farmer does,so he can go on public roads between properties & cant be anymore than 10 or 15 kilomteres from the reigistered address
If in doubt just ring a rural motorbike dealer,they will deal with this stuff everyday

That sounds dull. I was hoping you could have a Banshee as your commuter.

It looks to me like it would need to be registered as a passenger vehicle.

You can use a Banshee as a commuter , If you make it compliant.

Otherwise you register it as the exempt whatever, Thats how my old boy registered his quad, and how work registered our bobcats and rollers,loaders etc etc, none of them have a warrant of fitness nor could they get one, but all are legal to be on the road....within limitations.

it's all very confusing. I looked into getting one for a bit of fun on remote beaches but you can't register them as is, except in the farmers case outlined above but you need to register them to ride on the beach, which is a road in the eyes of the law apparently.

After running in circles for a while I biffed the idea yet I see loads of quads on the beach, are they all illegal? buggered if I know

In Yurp I saw a few quads racing around the streets, apparently road-legal. Not farm type models either, but some with a bit of street cred...

I've seen quite a few up at Waitarere Beach with plates on the back.
People seem to use them as transport to and from the beach.

The problem is quads have a solid rear axle, and thats not legal on the road. Must have a differential-rear as I understand it.

you can sort of register them for the road,

as said above you can get a EB farm vehicle exemption, they allow you to go between farms on farm business, (up to 21km from your front gate), it does not need a warrant of fitness, but simalr to a moped need to be kept in warrantable condition, (you can not register 2 wheelers like this any more)

if you were doing something stupid and the cop wanted to do you and new the law he could find something wrong with this, depends on what you want to use it for, alot of spray type vehcles and tractors will use this same exemption to operate in town

Now if money wasn't a problem I'd make a Tyrex road legal, no matter what it would take.
Imagine that thing drifting through the wet streets, oversize mag wheels, chromed out roll cage, the list goes on.

Now Scott, I've told you before, but I'll say it again. I'd be prepared to go through the process to create a sample for you to use as a demo and a shop delivery hack anytime you want!

the postman in akoroa uses a qaud. got a roof and everything. and a number plate. ive pretty sure i saw 1 at the pub 1 day that had a number plate.who cares. ftp.
