"E" numbers?

I'm looking to bring my Guzzi to NZ when I return later this year - I've been trying to find out EXACTLY what markings need to be on things - tyres, lenses, reflectors - and the specification of brake pads - (and how anyone can tell the difference).

My headlight has "E2", my indicators and tailight have "E3", and my tyres are standard Bridgestone BT45's - brake pads are ordinary EBC replacements - I will have standard silencers (what markings needed?)

cant see it being a problem, a mate brought a 1100 corsa sport over and he had no worries.

I brought a bike over from the UK and took it to the AA for compliace.

They were really thorough and even questioned the colour of the front brake cable.

They work from the manuafacturers origninal spec, as per your VIN No. You may need to download a full compliance spec sheet.

My advice would be to get it over here and then see what they tell you you nede for it to pass.

You can still ride it hear on your UK plates (for a while). I rode for 3 months on my UK plate and didn't ever get stopped.

Any E or e markings are good...the number just refers to which country issued the compliance.Standard exhaust should be good,aftermarket ones may have to pass a sound test.

The digit in position 2 is the country code, after that is the regulation to which the item complies.

eg the UN/ECE (Euro) tyre standard is 75R, so your tyres if Euro compliant should have Ex-75R on them. NZ also accepts the USA FMVSS 119 (DOT) and the Jap JIS D 4203 standards.

Have recently put my 79 Guzzi cafe racer through this procedure and passed ok with all the E markings including aftermarket e marked indicators. Lafranconi's didn't cause any problems. As it came from Germany I had to change the headlight (dipped the wrong way) which was $35 from repco. Got Mike at Drury tyres to do a brake declaration and took that with me to VINZ in Tasman Road Hamilton along with all the paperwork (proof of GST, Original rego papers from germany (translated) and assorted other documents) that I had. Cost NZD $162.00 and was done in less than 3 hours with the minimum of fuss. I highly recommend the guys n gals at VINZ in hamilton if you want a hassle free compliance check by guys who know what they are doing.
