    DR 650 info please

    Good morning gents

So I just bought a 2004 DR 650, 11000km, looking at getting a bigger tank and dynojet kit for her, she already has an open pipe, bit crackly so will tone her down to more of a boom than a bark.

Have done the search and read everything but would like to know where to buy these from.

We don't have a shop here in Wanaka so any input would be great.

    This is her anyway.

any bike shop will be able to get you a Dynojet kit, just ring around
for prices as they can vary quite abit.

Or you can order them from Kientech in the US.US$55.
I got mine from there a couple or so years back.when dollar was @85cents.
Ordered on a thursday morning turned up on monday morning.
Can't even get parts that fast Here.....
Cost US $9.20 for postage(don't know why i can remember that?)
that was jet kit + new chain roller.

    They come highly recommended.

I would recommend the Safari tank from australia
    http://www.rvaqualine.com.au/page.php?sId=11

You may not always need 30 litres but then you only fill it partway keeping the gas load low down.

Also check out www.advrider.com for adv info etc.

safari tank is a great tank.

    but.
if your not used to heavy bikes with weight up high.
    be carefull.
ive never had mine full, and there is a lot of pull in corners.

once tank fuel level get to half, bike is balanced geat.

as the bike gets lighter with less fuel in the tank, i find the bike becomes a hand full and quite lose on gravel.

    i like the extra weight.

    thats my thoughts
can view my tank in my photos.

that's interesting,I expected a half full safari(15L) downlow would be
less noticeable than a full standard tank(13L) up high, but reading your comments Joe,i suspect that it is the weight of those 15L off centre that makes the diff?

A bike with no gas feels a lot heavier than a bike with a full 30 litres.

Dont you get a different main jet with the keintech dynojet kit? One that works better for the DR than the std dynojet kit one. Might be wrong but correct me if so!

with the safari i have on.
one side of the tank, left side has a wider inside than right hand other.
right hand side has to allow for oil cooler, which is tucked in under the front of tank.

i put about $30 fuel in, this gives me aprox or just under half a tank.

weight is best at half tank. good balance,
less fuel makes bike feel light, when its down on reserves, yip theres two reserves. two taps, just below half, the tank devides in to two tanks.
ill run the right hand side right out, that gives me left hand side, aprox 6L fuel to find a gas station.

the most gas i ever put in it was $45 that was aprox 3/4 full, and man was it heavy, had to be carfull on corners, as it wanted to pull you over.

    other than that.
i like it and yea, on avrage ill just but in $16 and thats lasts for a while.

at least it clear so i know when im walking or not..

    Interesting........
I barely notice the difference between empty and full.
Maybe you push it harder than me and so notice it more.
I do like the extra weight of the big tank over the front though. The DR seems to like the rider getting weight well forward in the corners on the gravel. The big tank appears to make this less critical.

What really screws the handling is another 10 litres of fuel out the back, on the pack rack, when you already have 50 kg of luggage on the pillion seat.
That extra weight way back there has an effect way out of proportion to the mass.
I may not be as good as I once was, but I'm as good once as I always was.

Great input guys, Toddy has an IMS which I believe are 22L?

Would like the capacity but not too much, 22 L for everywhere I need to go should be fine, I also have two 1L alloy fuel bottles to take if it looks like getting narrow.

Made some inquiries, no DJ kits in the country so will order a Kientech kit and probably a designa yello IMS tank.

Also adding a shorter baffle muffler as mine has a small aftermarket pipe which is way loud, love something that sounds nice to not earbashing headache loud.

Will get a bash plate as well, any brands stand out as better than others?
