Yep. Just want people to know what they might be getting themselves into and know there is an option if it all turns to custard.

When at Uni I use to do a heap of mountain climbing. I got sick of the number of times I'd have to baby (put the left foot here and the right foot here now put the left foot there...) somebody off a mountain cause they lost it. Not fun for anybody!

    Cheers R

    Fair enough.

By co-incidence, I had my first mountain climbing experience last weekend, on a guided trip to Ruapehu's summit. Despite the apalling weather overnight, it was a great experience, and I didn't need to be babied at all.

But I'm getting off the point.

I agree that providing riders are given a reasonable overview of the course, then they can decide how to approach it, but I'd hate to see someone put off from riding two of the more spectactular sections, just because they have to ride properly to get through unscathed.

I am leaving Auck on the 4th/5th and intend on being in Fairlie from about the 10th, so if anyone arrives early and wants to do a trail ride/see some sights give me a shout.

On staying in the South for about 10-12 days, this includes the DB ride...
Pretty much zig zag down the North Island, catch the ferry on the 14th evening or morning, then zig, zig, and a bit of a zag towards....Fairlie, missing as much tar as the GPS can find me!
After the DB? Who knows? Find some metal and some mining roads and some trails, explore, get lost and eat lotsa fish and chips!
I will be trying t ofind the DOC campsites, save on sleeping costs....Why pay so much to sleep? That's petrol money to ride more and further!

That's the plan! Mind you I will be following my road book so will keep it under 120kph for a bit....
The bike growls at me, it starts between me thighs and then sort of goes down to the pegs and then all hell breaks loose!

I will talk to my little bro, he is a local/very keen hunter and knows the ins-outs of the area DOC camps sites/cabins around the Mackenzie country. Will see what I can find out for you.

I reckon you could even free Bivvie around the south, especially with the bikes....I am not tight, just want to try a bit of real ADV sort of stuff....
