Plans are progressing for the labour weekend pre-run. As said in the first post this will be a slower ride cause I will have to stop and write notes on the roll chart every now and then. It will be a good sociable/scenic ride if that is more your thing rather than the higher kms days (1 or 2 day) of the DB1k itself. Also it will probably be a bit more technically challenging cause conditions will probably be much muddier.
The idea at this stage is to stay overnight in Fairlie on the 23rd of October (we will probably travel down from Chch on Friday evening). Saturday will be through Mackenzies/Haka Pass, Danseys Pass, Old Dunstan 1 Track (eastern portion) to Lawrence area (maybe camp up at Ruralmans?). This will be about a 420km day which will probably take about 10/12 hours at a cruisy pace. We (chch people) need to get this much out of the way on the Sat so we can get back to Chch on the Monday.
Sunday will be Lake Onslow, Hawksburn Rd, Nevis (both ways), Carrictown Track to Cromwell. This will be about 420km and will probably take about 8/10 hours. We will probably find a spot/cabin at the motor camp.
Monday will be Thompson Gorge (rise and shine Rd), Omarama Saddle, Black Forest Station back to Fairlie. This will be about 300km which will take about 7/9 hours. I plan to bail back to Chch for the night (couple of hours up the road).
If you keen stick you name on the calender over
here.
Cheers R
