    Arrow Pre Run Accomodation

Labour weekend is quickly approaching so I've been making a few calls about accommodation for the DB1k Pre run. I've been trying to find cheap country pubs or camping grounds for Friday the 23rd and Sunday the 25th of October. We will be staying with Ruralman on Saturday the 24th.

At Ruralmans there are beds, bunks and mattress on the floor for a few of us - about 6 I understand. Guessing you will have to take your own bedding/sleeping bags etc - Ruralman can you let us know what we need to bring? My Bro and I are taking tents cause there will not be enough beds.

So my suggestion is we all book in at
    • Albury Tavern for Fri the 23rd. Their accommodation web page is here. Prices are Shared single $20, Single private $35, Double or twin $45 and $10 for a tent site in the paddock out the back. Phone number is 03 6855910
    • Cairnmuir Camping Ground for Sunday the 25th. Couple of web pages here and here. From my phone call it seems they have a few bunk rooms left including 2 bed, 5 bed (two rooms) and 8 bed (one room) cabins. Cost is $30 per cabin plus $12 per person so $27pp for the 2 bed, $18pp for the 5 bed and $15.75pp for the 8 bed. Obviously tent sites as well for $16pp. There Bannockburn Hotel (restaurant only) is not to far away or we can go "down town"

Both these places had beds when I called but I'd suggest those that have their name down for the pre run get on an organise their own accommodation.

I've rung a few places now and most are $60pp or more or don't have space. If any of the locals have any good suggestions feel free to let me know ASAP.

    Cheers R

P.S. Down town from the Cairnmuir Camping Ground is Cromwell.

so we need to book this as a group of 2, 5 or 8 if we want a cabin. i will put my name down for one bed - anyone else want to add there name so i can book a cabin

    Thats the idea Cynna.

One more thing I need to mention is that I rang a couple of farms about going through cause of lambing etc. We are NOT going to be doing
    • the loop via Menzies Rd and Myers Pass to the east of the Haka
    • Black Forest Road

We really don't want to piss the farmers off or we might not get access for the DB itself.

We will have to go straight down most of the Haka and will jump back onto the route for the last 10 kms or so. To get around Black Forest we will have to go up the highway from Omarama to the dam at the end of Lake Pukaki then go down the roads alongside the Pukaki River to get the Haldon at the northern end of Black Forest.

I will have info so people can write the new instructions on the roll chart in Albury.

    Cheers R

I see that Hamjet has removed his name and Jatz sent a PM saying that his bike wont be ready. So there is only XR650 and XF650 left to let us know if they want accommodation.

Yes, count me in thanks (although you will probably regret the invitation)

It will be all good. This is going to be a pretty relaxed ride cause I'll have to spend time correcting the roll chart and El Scooto will be two up. Should have plenty of time to take the sites in.

Ryan, don't think Ian (XR650) is going Labour weekend, so count him out

OK so Cynna, Transalper and XF650 are the only ones that want a cabin at Cromwell (Cairnmure).

for the friday night cabin i havent had a reply back from my email and havent got hold of them on the ph yet so will keep trying

booked a cabin at Cairnmuir for the sunday night. the info she gave me was different from Cooneyrs post. hope she knew what she was on about. she said there are 3 person cabins for $15 pp so thats what i booked - once i got off the ph i noticed thats cheaper then the tent site price and the prices that were quoted in the above post..... so it may be a bit darer when we get down there. that booking is for me XF650 and TAer

You may already realise but in case you dont the Albury Tavern is a Country Pub with rooms not cabins.

Dont worry about what I said re Cainmure, if you got a quote of $15pp for a three bed cabin then stick too it.

Sweet. Be cool to have some more north islanders down. It should be OK two up if you have pillioned a bit and it sounds like you know the terrain. Keen to lay eyes on a F800GS
