You confused people need to go back and read post#193 about accommodation or arrange your own.
The route starts and ends in Fairlie.
    Overnighters are stopping in Alexander.
Personally my choices have me in with one of the other groups thanks to H.O.T. for Friday/Sunday nights and on the list for the Alex stop over on Saturday night. I'm also down for the BBQ tea/meeting at the Gladstone in Fairlie on Friday evening.

Struan I've sent you a PM but I'm not sure where we are starting from or going to or what. (Fcuk I find it hard to find my feet a lot of the time let alone somewhere out of Nelson)

I promise I'll be really obnoxious & sing in the shower offkey.... again...

Anyway either help me or abuse me but don't ignore me....

Tis our way of controlling the calibre of the rider that attends. If you cant find the starting location then obviously you cant join us

For a map of where we are going (I've heard that you and maps don't get on so well ) see here.

TA has posted all there is to know about the accommodation.

Oh and go back and read the very first post!

Yeah undecided again at this stage. I was remembering getting to the accom on day 1 of the DB at 9pm last year.May be keen on cruising down wiv ya & maybe doing half the DB at a more leisurely pace. Perhaps I can start a 3 day version

Yes, well from the story I heard you lot did spend an extraordinary amount of time (compared to previous years) sitting about drinking coffee talking about riding instead of actually doing it.
If you really want to soak it all up and have lots of long coffee stops then closer to four days might be a better bet.
The three day pre run (not counting the ride to the start the evening before) was three long days with many very short stops, two minutes here, one minute there making notes on the route, but no long coffee stop extras other than lunch. We didn't even have time to complete all of the bits we intended to check then.

I think i'll be intending to arrive in Alex by 7pm for the overnight stop unless I've stopped for tea before then, but we'll see how it plays out on the day.

Nothing like telling it like it is

TA is right though. A normal days ADV riding (well what I call normal anyway) with a hour lunch break, 5min regroups every hour or so and not mucking around too much often works out at about 50kph overall. So given you have 500km to travel each day it will take a good 10 hours and if you stop for photos or ride in a big group (takes a long time to regroup) add more time. I'd be allowing 12 hours for the day i.e. 8am to 8pm. Remember the intent of the DB1k is to challange you, to ride lots of gravel, to see some cool scenery and to talk ADV. It isn't a coffee run (I can say that cause I dont drink coffee)!

In saying all this from what I've heard the two day riders do have a pretty good time though. There are a reasonable number that are back for their 2nd and 3rd run.

    Cheers R

This looks like a great event. Did the Back of Beyond last w/e and am now hooked on ADV riding.(Gale force winds, driving rain, deep rivers, miles of fast gravel, great scenery- great stuff!) Would be quite keen on tagging along but with the starting pt being Fairlie, 2 days off doesn't really cut it. Will have to see if i can influence the work roster..

No firm plans here either, but was thinking today about maybe heading over that road that goes to granity and then heading up the Coast road to Grey or possibly Franz as a first day. (possibly)

The 2 day with 21 odd riders certainly adds another dimension to a 500k ride, but I am looking forward to it.

Nope, not too late. Still a few bed spaces in Alex but will have to organise accomodation himself for elsewhere.
