    Hey Cooney,

    How's the route sheet going?
Are you able to confirm whether we'll be doing the Nevis stn section? (i'd rather leave it out if there's enough km, should be getting close to catching the sbc guys by about there too) Will there be any other changes to the earlier route sheet?

there are lots of small changes from the pre run draft version... some new cells, some removed cells and lots of distance corrections.
Last update I seen we will be going as far as Duffers Saddle then turn on to Caracktown Track.

Hi Topo. Been a very busy couple of weeks. I'm in your part of the country for a long weekend for some RnR. I hope to get a bit more work done on the GPX track logs and my website (the route shown on it and I'll post up the roll chart). There is a number of revisions to the route and the roll chart.

    Cheers R

Arrow Web Page update - Roll Chart and Other Files

Hi All. I've just finishing updating the Dusty Butt Southern South Island webpage and have updated the following
    • the route shown on the Google map,
    • the final roll chart has been uploaded
    • the route data spreadsheet with distances for fuel, gravel and estimated travel times has been updated
    • the Google earth file (will open in google earth over the aerial photos) has been updated
    • the topomaps with the route drawn on have been updated

I'll hopefully get the gps files finished and uploaded in the next couple of days.

    Cheers R

Printing the original PDF double sided works pretty well too. The two strips end up on the left side of the page so don't overlap each other.

    Wannabe Dakar Riders

If you want to pretend your are real Dakar rider get your high lighters out and mark up the roll chart. You could mark all of the instructions where the following instruction is less than 1km further on. I've put a little sign type symbol in the cell if the next one is less than a 1km away.

The other thing that everybody should take note of/mark up is the challenge loop. The challenge loop is cells 94 to 96 inclusive then jumps to cell 100 once back on the base route. The base route jumps from cell 93 to 97 then continues on.

Ok, dumb question time...what oil and tyres should I use?

Seriously, I'm looking at changing the rear and ideally want to run a Tourance (cause it's lying around the shed) as there is a lot of road kms between here and the DB, is that a sensible choice or not? If a knobbly is required I will stick another MT21 on.....sensible advice please!

Bloody hell Iain, this isn't the CCA thread - you won't get sensible advice here. To cover all bases just paint your tyre with diesel oil.

And now it'll degenerate into another "Which diesel oil should I paint my tyre with" thread.

    Thanks

In the interests of informing all a Mitas E07 would be fine for the ride unless you plan on doing the challange loop which will require either a bit of pushing for up to 50m or a MT21/D606/E09. There are some other short boggy bits but the E07 will handle them.

The biggest risk is if it rains. About 200kms of the tracks are dirt which will become slippery if wet.

Safest bet is to stick on the tourance for the trip down and order yourself a E07/E09/knobblie of your choice in Chch that you pick up on the way down. Alternatively order and pay for a tyre and I'll collect the week before and trailer it down on the Friday.

Ok, that about sorts it out, MT21 going on and if it gets shagged on the way back north I'll pick up a new one in Wellington.....

Thanks for the offer Ryan but I suspect we will be squeaking time to get to the start so I won't introduce the possibility of a midnight tyre change.

As for you Mr Moore....you'll keep!

Isn't KTM oil just diesel oil anyway?
