We're now heading down through the Rainbow on the 14, maybe stop in Chch or thereabouts on thurs night (any and all offers of a bed will be considered except you T.A, I've seen your flat ) and get to Fairlie mid afternoon Fri. Gives us a bit of time to chew the fat and have a beer or 2
Don't know whats happening after the D.B. though, depends how we feel

After the DB there are a few of us looking to ride north via Lyndon Rd, Lees Valley, Molesworth or Rainbow etc. Yell out at the event if you want to hook up for this.

Gidday James et al - I'm thinking of coming through the Rainbow or the Molesworth on my way South on Thursday 14. Prolly leaving Picton around noon on the Thursday - will head South as far as I can comfortably before nightfall and attmepting to make sure the ride on Friday (to Fairlie) is not too big a day.

    Ciao Aslan

    Question any spare beds?????????

In Fairley ----on Fri. night. If someone had a spare perch in their cabin for an old fella who doesn't cough ,snore, fart, drink, smoke or sleep walk(too much any way). It would be great to save putting a tent up and packing up early saturday morning. Top ten cabin's are all booked out (you buggers must have taken them) I have emailed them to check. Maybe there is a spare bed in one of the booked cabins though ,that I could use.

PM me if you have one available.
Hitting the South Island on the 12th @ 5.15pm. Though I would do port underwood road and Molesworth.
    1. Any susgetions for good camping sites that can be reached before dark
    2. How hard and how much time required for the Black Birch track to Mt Altimarlock. Also where do I turn on to it?

Have a whole day to get to my Daughthers in Christchurch though I would check out Lake Summer or Lees Valley. Advice Welcome?
    ---Al.

When on the seal at the northern end of the Molesworth (from SH1 or Taylors Pass) you turn right through a gate (normal gate not deer fence gate) at the point where the seal ends. There other patches of seal further south but just look for the first bit of gravel. It had a "Private Property - No Entry" sign but that is bollocks. The roll chart (here) for the original route has the details. The turn is 18.6km from the Taylors Pass intersection.

The track up the hill is pretty obvious - it is the most used one.

Another though - zoom in to the map on this page and you can see the route over aerials if you want or download the KML file and open it in google earth, or better still if you have a GPS download the GPS file for the original route.

    Cheers R
