BUGGER!!!-----Changed the oil in the ole> XT ---------and------------guess what,-----------------one of the oil filter cover bolts stripped out.It was only after--- I remembered-- it felt a bit "soft" last time.
Anyway ----the genius in me took over ,I cut a battery clamp bolt ,welded a nut on,up from the threaded end, so it was a bit longer than the original, and luckily there was enough good thread left for it to thread in again. Will do untill I Helecoil it.
For my Roll chart box knobs,I found if you take the guts out of water bottle caps ,they just fit over the 12mm (I think) wooden axles I used. I used a "SYSTEMA" split 1 litre box.

The blue 450g aerosol ABC type came from Fitness Hire (member razzel1 on TradeMe). The red 'Fire Exit' and the TUNDRA Fire Suppressant are available in Mitre 10, Mega, Placemakers, Bunnings and Briscoes stores. All are $20 - $25. (text and image stolen from 4skins CCA website).

If you are planning on doing the CCA then you must have one of these so why not get it now - said like a true sales man

It's already got the chart in it.

Forgive me if this is a silly question. As the route stands with the waypoints A1-A...whatever. I can load this into my GPS. I have done this, so have the route for the weekend. My question is this Nordie or Ryan please....
When I get going on the Saturday, will the GPS calculate for me using "off road" and retain all the waypoints and give me the turns etc as normal?
OR, do I use Mapsource replot the route as far as I can, let it calculate and then resave it as the DB2010? The thing is, it works well until A65, then we head off road, then I can re-join the route at A68 and then continue. It happens a few times as we are heading off track, then rejoining the roads further along...
I have the roadbook and sort of want to match that to my GPS...

Turn route recalculation off on the GPS.

You are making it harder than it is.
If you have the gps set to use "off road calculation" or set to ask you what method to use at which point you choose to use off road calculation then you're done.
Non of this recalculation or reloading in to mapsource or anything.
The lines are guides and go straight from point to point. You will never get them to wiggle along the roads using 'off road' setting without exceeding the gps number of points limit.

If you are trying to match the roll chart with Ryans existing via points then look at the points that are labelled with left/right added. Most(not all) of those ones should approximately match route sheet cells.

My own separate waypoint file that matches cells with locations is here...WaypointsONLY-2010.gpx
    Right click, save as.
It is as accurate as I can be as this point in time. Some waypoints are staggered out of each others way a bit where we travel the same roads twice up around Makenzie Pass way for example.
The one thing I'm going to be wary of is the Taranaki gate in the Black Forrest. Location for that is a ball park only.

    Rare Spectacle

You lot (and me) a potentially going to see a rare spectacle that not many NZ'ers have seen in person. The Benmore Dam is spilling at present and expected to continue to spill for the next few days. Whether the spilling is right or wrong is another debate but it looks damn impressive - Benmore is probably has the most impressive spillway of any Dam in the SI because of the fin at the end that shoots water up to disapate its energy. There use to be a large rock (natural not placed) in river at the end of the spillway however that was erroded maybe 1.5-2m to below the waterline during spilling last year. I've personally never seen it and it generally only happens for a couple of days a year at most. It sounds like this year is an exception in that there has been so much rain in the head waters around the Main Divide.

The DB1k route goes across the top of the Benmore Dam i.e. across the top of the control gates in the first photo so you will get to see the view in the second photo. If you are interested - take the tracks off to the right just as the Dam itself comes into view as you go up the valley and you will be able to get a picture like the first one.
