Bloody shame the organisers ride didn't quite go to plan ...............
Seeing as how its all planned out - why not have another go in a couple of weeks ???? - and give some who couldn't make this one another chance
I got to the Lake and set up for the coffee stop about 1:30. I waved down a couple of pairs of riders on my way in from Lawrence - looked like they were really enjoying it.
Only had a couple of bikes come in for coffee - not sure whether my signs weren't big enough (there were a couple of toots), or ,no one trusts my coffee, my deodorant has run out, or you were already so far behind your time schedule that you couldn't afford to stop???
Actually I didn't care - had a great afternoon relaxing at my friends batch, caught up on some reading and was there if needed (I'm pleased I wasn't)
Hope tomorrow goes well and you continue on with a dry track

It pissed down for the start of last years.
And a couple of times on the Molesworth too but only briefly.
Well?
We're waiting....
How many SBC seats had to be surgically removed?
Etc etc etc...
From us that missed out - Well done gents & ladieshowever we do want to hear about all the nuggety bits. Does someone want to do a writeup on Advrider with pics for easy photo vieiwng?
heres a few pics until someone does a writeup
will add a link up to the other photos when i upload them to another site
Few random photos quickly picked out of the bunch.

Things I know so far - there is much more to come I'm sure.
SBC has been concoured - Zerax and Skinny Birdman completed the run in 22.25 hrs
El and I failed big time!
Racing Dave got a chopper ride
The Ausi Safari entrants, Topo and Javahead had an extremly good run
I know of two other riders (X-challange and XR650R) completed the one day run
A XT660R rider had a fall on the one day run and got home by going up the seal from Alex to Omarama
There are a couple of minor issues with the roll chart
The GPS file worked really well
We paid for 49 bikes to go through the Black Forest track which is the best record of the number of bikes entered. This is by far the largest starting field ever - about 1.5 times last years numbers.
Lastly a very very large thankyou to all who helped with preparing for the ride - Cynna for his company on the pre run, Transalper for the same and his help with the roll chart and GPS file, my brother El Scooto and his fiance for their company on the pre run and their help at the BBQ, XF650 for finding the BBQ and Fairlie and Alex accomodation and lastly my wife for tolerating all the hours of me preparing for this ride (and the new route) and her advice and help.
I'm keen to hear all the stories of the fun that was had, advice on issues with the route/roll chart, ideas for next year (lets get them while they are front of mind) and lastly how many times The Pom managed to crash during the ride LOL
Cheers R

Thanks Ryan & team for the hard work on this ride, it was bloody epic!
Only had 2 navigational issues (one included a trip up the Omarama Saddle, which was worth doing anyway). Really enjoyed following the roadbook, next time I shall get a proper (click-click I mean) road book instead of just having the prinout in the tank bag.
You guys did a great job of stringing all these great bits of country together, there was not much boring road stuff between the amazing vistas. I have been around a fair bit of that country before, but never seen it like we did over the weekend.
I spent way too much time on the camera on saturday and only just made it into Lawerence at 4:55pm, the petrol station closed after I filled up. I could have been in trouble if I was much later.
Thanks to all the guys I met and rode with, had a bloody great weekend.
Thepom rode like a tropper on sunday, did not see him fall off even once, no matter how many times I pointed a camera at him.
Here he is doing a crossing on the entry to Little Omarama Saddle.

Bloody fantastic Ryan - can it get any better than this?
Everyone I rode with was constantly in awe of the route, the scenery and the amount of time & effort you put into this event. Many times I heard the comment: "lets do this again" !!
Congratulations also to the 125's & 1 dayers - Well done.
From a 2 dayer perspective I think the route was spot on. I guess for variation you could reverse the direction but not sure how that would work for the 1 dayers.
I managed to dump the XF twice in the Challenge loop but it's obvious now I wasn't alone. In fact I think Serpentine Road should be re-named "Rut Road".
Thanks to Hobbit & HOT for support services.
Roll on Dusty Butt 2011.
A big thanks from myself and Jacko to Ryan and the team for such a great event!
Had a great day one, the highlight of which was the challenge loop - some serious 4WD ruts up near the church. A big thanks to the guys on the TTR600 and DR650 for helping out with Jacko's GS800. Bumped into Ruralman, near Lawrence and Shrek (I think) before the Serpentine Rd.
Unfortunately the 15 hours of mainly high speed caning resulted in me DNF'ing at Cromwell with a blown motor, so it's RIP XT600 or at least that particular engine. To add insult to injury, the rear wheel bearings shot themselves on Jacko's GS so we enjoyed a rental car ride back to Chch on Sunday and the bikes went on a truck - thanks to the AA!
I've posted some pics up to Picasa here:

Hi All,
First up Cheers to Cooneyr and everyone else who helped with this years ride
Javahead and i had a great ride completing the loop in just under 16hrsthe only minor issue was Javahead's headlight failing wich required us to be home before dark which we just made.
A few questions regarding the other 1 day guy's. Who's the guy riding the BMW 650XC? we caught up to him at one point but stopped for a quick feed and never saw him again. and also what time did the guy on the 650? honda get in? we spoke to his dad when we arrived and got the impression that we should have met him allong the way?
Let the planning for next year begin![]()

GO BRO GO
Mate that sucks. Good luck getting the XT repaired or replaced! Whats with the F800GS wheel bearings going - use or something more sinister?
The XC rider was davo20 I think. He helped Racing Dave out as he was a minute or so behind him when he crashed. The XR650R rider is a KB newby from Rangitata, or was it Raikaia - cant remember. I had a chat with him the next morning and I think I'm right in saying a 12pm arrival back at Fairlie (6pm ish start).
The mind is already working through potential bike ideas. As for route ideas, we really need to talk! Anytime your comming down get in touch. I'll do the same if I go to NN.
Cheers R
