    6R - "auto transmission only" - what??

Ok so I got my licence in the mail today, 1F + 6R. Turned it over and on the back it said "Only vehicle with automatic transmission to be used". It doesn't say this on my temporary paper licence.

Is this correct? Does anyone else's 6R say that? And if yes... why? I would have thought almost all motorcycles are manual.

its because of your car licence maybe. are you licenced to drive only auto car ? if thats the case then there is no mistake.

On a side note when I got my 6R they deleted my 1F licence and after that I had to wait till I get my car licence again for a week. They are not the most observent there in the AA, but i guess if you call them and insist on compensation they may give you a tank licence for free, or at least a truck and trailer. try it.

have you only got a motorbike license or are you able to drive a car as well i.e. a 1 .... I would think that is what the note on the back is for ... but I think going to AA and doing a 'please explain' is a good idea.

If you sit your 1R in an Automatic you will get it stamped with the 'Automatic Gearbox only' condition. Did you happen to sit the 6R on a CVT or Auto Gearbox? (Scooter for example) If you did your test on a manual - take it back and ask them to rectify it.

Its not a big issue - as soon as you get your full the condition will disappear. Class 1 or 6.

Back in the day, I sat my 1R in my 1963 Valiant with push-button Torqueflite auto transmission.

The tester was so impressed with my ability to drive the barge that he left the 'auto only' flag off my licence.

    Or maybe he just forgot.

Or maybe he didn't notice me surreptitiously pushing the buttons on the right-hand side of the steering column, then couldn't remember, after the test, what I was doing to change gear, and thought he'd play it safe.

If you have you full car licence then you can drive a manual even if you sit the licence in an auto so it's nothing to do with the class 1 part of the licence. I'd say they just made a mistake.

There is no such condition on my 1F + 6R temporary paper licence, I did the 6R test with a normal motorcycle. The condition was not on my 1F + 6L licence either.

I guess I'll be giving LTNZ a call then.

lucky you ont have my luck!, i'd have been pulled over driving my manual cage the instant I recieved that licence and ticketed for breaching conditions of licence!

Well I'm still carrying around my paper licence which doesn't expire until 2 May, so if I get pulled over I'll just show them that.

Anyway I just gave LTNZ a call, they said I have a 1F so that condition shouldn't apply, and it doesn't apply to 6R, so it was a mistake.

He said it probably got back on there cos I applied for my 1F and 6R tests on the same day (and sat the tests on the same day too).
