That's how I came across my KX125. Best buy for $2000 at the time. I couldn't care a toss what brand it was as long as it was jappo. But you asked for a comparison here between a KX85 and a CR85, horses for courses all things being equal, it narrows it down somewhat. Of course commonsense comes into it when you factor in year, wear, blah blah blah.

Sorry dude, but Sami is not really "after da speed".
Our KX seems to smoke most others regardless of type. Even other KX's, its not the bike its the rider and the way they ride.

Sami, IMO, and knowing the type of riding you do the CR would be alot harder to handle for you. Any 85 without a powervalve is harder to manipulate around tracks and trails as per the riding you do. If you were to participate in MX only then this is an entirely different kettle of fish(another strange saying, where did this saying come from?) and you would have a wider choice.

Most peeps here (Booom, Honda_Power, no offense) don't know you from a bar of soap(jeez, full of the reoteric tonight) so don't really understand you ability and riding style.

We have had numerous KX85's and have not really had any probs apart from the normal wear and tear. The same of our friends whom have CR's, YZ's etc etc. Its all about maintenance.

But the bike with a power valve will make your riding so much more pleasurable as well as being very versatile.

All bikes are relevent price wise on resale depending on condition.

KTM lovers say the same about a linkage, i know what i would rather have

powervalves came in the the early 80's, fuck knows why Honda and Yamaha never put them on 85's

im not talking about speed/riding ability though.
If you had a kx and cr of the same years, in the same cond, for the same price, then my advice would be to ride and choose.

But as the kx is a good $700+ more, and as the kawasakis [not that they are a bad bike] resale value is a lot less, It wouldnt be smart to buy that kx.

Powervalves really arnt that amazing as people are making out, sure, might give it a tiny bit of bottom end, but you dont buy an 85 for the bottom end power, you buy it to scream. Half an hour on the cr and she'll be used to it, if not, she should really not be on any 85 in the first place. 85's really arnt made for putting around. No, not even the KX's.

The way you guys are talking it sounds like she would be better to stick with the drz.

The powervalve not only gives bottom end, it also smooths out the delivery of the powerband. This is exactly the thing you need when riding tight forestry tracks with trees as Sami does. its not about "you buy it to scream" as you don't want that type of delivery on a trail ride. MX yes.
Yes I agree KX's were not made for puttering around on, but they are bloody good at it. Better than a CR.

My son ride's KX's. He rides tight technical stuff and has done so for years and his style suits a powervalve because he hooks higher gears to get low down grunt.

On the MX track he needs to get on the pipe more(even tho he is generally in the top 20% of races) due to his X country up bringing. But Sami is not a full on MX rider.

She will go further faster on a valved bike.

The KX is still good for that. Again its the rider skill set.

For example, Logan won junior summer series MX last year at Ken Fells on his KX. Came third in the Inter school championship team's event this year at Ardmore out of 117 teams.
Yet always in the top 3 of junior X country, GNCC, Two Man events etc.

Stock std KX85. Same bike as has been produced for what 5 years now.

was writing another big message, then the computer decided to switch off.
    Cant be fucked re-writing

Basically all iv been trying to say...

who gives a fuck about the colour. Buy the best deal avalible. That cr your gonna look at looks good, and is in no way a worse bike due to it not having a valve.
But that kx is not a good deal. You could get a newer kx for that price.

Everyones repping the bikes that they own... haha

I haven't seen the bikes on TM.

In theory the CR are more expensive from new so they should be more exp secondhand.

If the KX is like 20% more then I'd be still looking too and not be in a hurry.

Sammi, like i've already said - try some then you decide which you prefer.
I learnt on the CR so they can't be that hard to ride considering (not that i ride well now though haha).

I see you're trying some out over the weekend
Looking forward to hearing how you get on & which you prefer.

When i brought mine i just looked on TM for an 80/85 which i liked at a decent price. had no idea bout these power valves etc, probably a good thing or i would have ended up all confused.

Power valves are a big deal, but how much smoothing do they give on a 85?

Sammykins what is it about YOUR bike you don't like??
What about it DO you like??
What about the suzuki 85 --what about that do ya like/dislike?

Guys not havin a go here but without answers to those questions its impossible to offer educated advise

I'd like to bet a chocky fish the answer is not likeing the shit suspension and lack of top end oomph-- and liking the 4 stroke bottom end power.
