Have been reading about cam chain tensioners and their tendancy to fail, in the interest of preventative maintenance, I am thinking about getting an APE manual can chain tensioner for my 91 cbr600f2. Just wondering where I might get one from, and wondered if anyone has a rough idea of cost for them? I have read it is a simple unbolt the old, bolt in the new type job that you can do yourself in about half an hour, that right?

Hi mate. Got mine through Ebay uk. Was 40 pounds so probably around $100 + about $20 postage. Only thing is you'll need a paypal account. Took just over a week for delivery

Yes that is right but care still needs to be taken. As there is a few things you must do.

I did my 675 cost about $95 I think it was a couple of years ago.

[APE manual cam chain tensioners are designed to replace the automatic and hydraulic tensioners on high performance engines. The automatic adjusters can back out when the throttle is closed suddenly at high rpm. This allows the cams to go momentarely out of time, and can result in bent valves and/or serious engine damage. Hydraulic tensioners have a tendency to put too much tension on the chain guide under high rpm/high oil pressure conditions, resulting in premature wear.

thanks guys. If I can find one in the us, I can get my mate to send it to me, they were definitely made for the 91 cbr, I know of people (in the states) who have put one on
