Service stations as we know them wont exist. Perhaps they'll be battery exchange centres, for those needing power urgently.

I suspect the majority of us will get our vehicle energy from places where our vehicles are left sitting. Car parks, supermarkets, work places, perhaps even from parking machines on the side of the road.

Building a service station is quite a big barrier to entry (even just considering RMA). However selling power via a power point should be much simpler, hence a lot more people offering to do it.

I don't think any kind of rapid charging system will be as quick as swapping a battery which has been designed to be swapped. Perhaps batteries might need some kind of "run hours" meter on them, like an odometer, so it can quickly be established how old or used the battery is.
Then the "servo" can slow charge the "old" battery overnight.

That's true if batteries are still in use.
Supercaps are rapidly getting to the point where they out perform batteries - charging will take minutes.
