Mine was my current VFR400. Took it on the gravel roads behind the Wellington turbine. That was great fun.

Keen to get something a little more suitable though, like a ZX10R.

CT110. Learnt to ride on it chasing sheep around the farm and jumping boarder dykes. Old man put his back out (slipped a disk) on it one year just as lambing was finishing so I had to drench the 3000 lambs that year - I was 11.

The first bike I ever owned was a 87 XL250R. First road legal bike was a 96 DR250 Djebel.

    Cheers R

    1989 GSXR250RR-K

It took me to several Cold Kiwi's, from Hamilton to the Brass Monkey and back, 90 mile beach up the stream at the top and to the Cape Reinga lighthouse several times when it was still 40km's of corrogated gravel and all points in between.

My first 'proper' adventure bike was a 1981 R80G/S, not the one I currently own.

1972 Yamaha CT2,brand new.I crashed off road with an identical bike in the first week.Bounced it off the side of a Trekka at 60mph after 3 weeks.Tore two slots down the side of the Trekka with clutch lever and gearlever.I rode the bike home, but it had bent the frame.....and squashed my foot so bad I had to get it x rayed...no damage.Had a lot of fun and rode it pretty hard on and off road....we rode everywhere we could in those days. One of the reasons you guys can't ride anywhere these days - we rode on the volcano's of Auckland,Winstones Quarry, and open land that are now various suburbs of Auckland, covered in houses.Beaches,Woodhill Forest before it was a bike park, and Riverhead forest too.Bought an International AS110,stripped our bikes down and transported them to riding areas.Lent it to a mate one day - 3 weeks later I asked where it was...''Oh,I gave it to **** to use for a while....do you want it back?''

    This 1986 Honda CBX250:

Rode it everywhere, plenty of gravel & 4wd tracks, usually loaded up with camping gear for the weekend. At the time, didn't know 'adventure' existed as a category. I just rode my bike where I wanted to go. 40,000km in 18 months but usually had a sheepy on it. Wish I still had it.
    Cheers,
    Colin

    Boarder Dykes.
Actually I've just read that link and it is crap. Bloody hard to open the gate to flood the next down stream section. Normally close a gate to flood the next upstream section. Sills are not clocks they are the boards that control when the water starts flooding out into the paddock. The clocks were for closing the gates. Sheesh!
