I checked that line today while swapping carbs.
Call it a vent line if you like but turn the carb on its side and fuel pours out of it given the large bore.
Well I redirected mine up along the frame last night toward to two rubber tank supports, I had a dried out vivid permanent marker pen which I cut in half and used as a cap, perfect for breathing, tough and the right dia.
I also cut a scollap out of the side of the hose near the end so it would not seal itself at the end of the pen body.
This will stop shit flying in anyway.

Indeed it does,page 17 - 7 of the manual.
Whoops,I had the one on my bike at the rear of the cases (not sure how long though) but not sure that might have gone well if submerged.
It must have been along the frame before but wonder what happens if the bike is dropped on that side and fuel came out of it,into the sidecover then perhaps onto the exhaust when stood up.
Mean photo's !!!!! where abouts did you get the pannier brackets on the side?
