    49T sprocket?

Have read that alot of KXF250 riders go to a 49 tooth rear sprocket(standard is 13/48)i'm due for new sprockets and was wondering what the advantage/disadvantages are.I only ride trails and hardly ever get tapped out in top gear......Cheers

The ride i did down sth the other week when i stripped of the teeth on the rear i use the wheel of the 426 i fixed up it had a 50 tooth rear compared to my 49 i hated it as the loss of top end was noticeable i have refitted a 49.

Yea I went with net people's opinions and went to a 13/51 from a 14/48 (Std 14/52). Well what a difference it was crazy, now I can get into 2nd in the blues at sandpit lol. They reckoned the 51 was a good in between gear for what seemed like the kind of riding I do. Next time I'll go with a 52 as now sometimes I'd like to get into 3rd more, as I'm going abit too fast for 2nd but not in the powerband for 3rd. See how it goes, its really personal preference and you have to play around with different ones to get the sweet spot, pity rear sprockets aren't so cheap!

Yeah what i'm finding is that on the tighter trails 2nd is too short and i have to change into 3rd....but when i do it's almost like it's too high, and i need to go back to 2nd....yeah your right i mite just have to get one and try it out i spose.......can always get another 48 a bit later on.....for when summer starts and all the open farm Trailrides start....Cheers

Welcome to using a MX gearbox in the tighter off road world and the 250's power spread doesn't help either, a 450 is more capable in tractoring around in any gear and easier to ride in many repects. Going to a 49 tooth rear should tighten up those first 3 gears and make 3rd much more usable and the bike should be a bit more fun to ride as far as a 250 $ stroke goes. Could be just what you are looking for and your idea of using a 48 for the summers more open trail rides is a good idea.

Twice the displacement, twice the cost and a decibel problem, I'll pass on the inside brraaaap!!!

We put 47 or 46 tooth sprockets on a KX250F a lot of time for trail riders, it puts 2nd into play a lot more and give a better cruising speed with out having to rev the bike as much,

as Danger puts above the std mx gearing is not sometimes the best for off road,

I went from standard 12/48 (standard) to a 12/46, makes the bike alot more rideable for trail rides.
Makes the gears alittle bit longer so your not mashing through the gear box.
Still starting MX races in secound.
I could even drop another tooth or two on the back, as the bike has never struggled or bogged down on hills, tight trees or anything.
