Helmet Trivia.
The WW2 German helmet is a variation of the WW1 version but more shallow and without the lugs for frontal armour.
The German Paratroopers used standard army issue helmets to start with but found that they could cause neck breakages, which is why they went to a different helmet.
Post war the fire brigade used them, I recall seeing them once in the 80's.
In a helmet style contest I'd rate:
1: German
2: Russian
3: American
The Germans also did a nice line in boots and these could be picked up cheap after the Berlin wall came down.
I lent my Gott MiT Uns belt, jackboots and helmet to a mate for a "Sound of Music' evening at the Civic and have never seen them since.....bastard.
