    Oxford grips and DR650 question

    Afternoon gents

    Just fitting the Oxford heated grips, who else has done this and did you trim the grip down for bark busters or what did you do?

    Considering shifting the brake lever set over but this means getting rid of the locating pin, has anyone done this and had problems.

    -1.5 again now at 4.50 pm!!

    Of the Heated Grips Looking for advice post below these ones?
    Once you have the bike all finished you will be heading up the mountain, lots of HP, lots of heat and you'll wanna get it dirty.....OH, I forgot the fuel range with the big tank too...Don't get lost out there in the big yonder...
    It's fun re-arranging things, adding bits on and I bet you can't wait until the weather clears a bit for ya!

    I only cut enough off the end to be able to get the grip all the way on without clashing with the bark busters or if you have big/wide hands you may want them further in on the bar too.
    Get rid of the locating pin in the leaver perches, it will enable you to adjust the rotation of the leavers to suit your arms and help stop the leavers/perches from breaking in a drop.
    You got to get rid of the locating pins anyway when you upgrade to alloy bars.

    Yeah read through that but nothing conclusive, reckon I will shuffle things along a bit and yeap cant' wait to get out!!

    This wins for me, get the levers in a more ergo postion as well.

    hi mate.

    i guess there same as mine. oxford stamped in to the grip, big fat wire coming out one end.
    left hand side is easy. what i did.
    removed old grip, had to move the swich block over about 20mm, but you will have to drill a new hole in the bar to get it back togeather again, you understand when you take it apart. it may pay to put some sticky back foil on the bar first,befor putting the grip on, i didnt do that and now i cant get the grip off. other wise most of the heat goes in to the bar on that side, i still get plenty of heat off it.
    once heat grip glued in place, i just trimed the out side off, and refitted my safty guards.

    now the right hand side was a different story, getting the old grip off was a bitch.
    on the plastic incert on the bar, i had to remove a bit of plastic from the side closest to the tank, this is where the old grip was over laped, and glued on.
    and then glue and fit new heat grip.trim end and refitted safty guard.

    it took me a while to sort out the power to the control, so it would turn of the key.
    i ended up adding a relay and placed this down by the batt.

    i think thats about covers it.

    Heya junkmanjoe

    K, game on will get it all done in the morning, I don't have bark busters yet but plan to get some, spent enough at the mo.

    Had them on a previous bike and they worked well and saved the levers.

    Mate of mine came and sorted out the wiring side, big orange wire on the igintition side so they turn off when I turn the bike off ... which is handy.

    have you tryed reving the engine while there turned on.
    as mine used to turn off.
    they worked ok at idle.. mine also turned off when rideing also..

    not now..

    Cut the pins off instead.

    Those holes in the bars are annoying.
    On the Nordie I decided to give the "silicon gunk in the bars to reduce vibration" a go...

    Not with little holes in the bars you don't

    Yeap , currently underway .. slight snag, I blew the left grip of with compressed air easy as but thr bloody RH grips is stuck down solid so I am into it with a wire wheel ... time consuming !!

    Sunny now with -4 deg last night, great to see the sun!

    Yeah. The right DR650 grip is bonded to the throttle tube

    Well there is no squabbling in the shed so I assume all is well or maybe they are all frozen and dead

    The grips are on, the glue is probably trying to set, the bike looks like it has been in a prang, I cut back all the pins on the controls to shift everything along to maintain a full grip.

    The RHS was total biatch to get off but I won.

    Will finish her by putting her together for good tomorrow night, spent the avo working in our motorhome and went for MTB ride in the SUN as the temp went up to 3 deg ... it is now -4 deg

    the only prob i had with moveing the left hand side switchs over, its a bit difficult to see out the the rear view now..

    Yeah I looked at that but I will be replacing the M Mouse square heads with something a little bit more slick as my lenses are pretty cruddy behind, somhow the mirror stuff behind the glass is damaged.
