Why do tyre pressure guages never read the same?
I have one of those old skool pop-up types, an analouge one and now a SCA digital one. NONE of them read the same!
Some say never trust the air guages at the servo but i've got serious trust issues right here in the garage!

Whichever was tested most recently would be my best guess.

If you're worried enough call your local calibration lab. 1/2 hour to check a pressure gauge shouldn't cost too much.

Just out of interest, what's the difference between them. Are we talking 1/2 psi or significant differences?

If the digital guage is reading 35 say, the analouge will be 38 and the pop-up 32. I wasnt even aware you could calibrate the things?!

Hmm I just bought a pressure gauge to use at home, after also hearing how the servo's ones have a reputation for being terribly inaccurate...

yeah ive got one from the bike shop, a psi tester. considering it is a psi gauge only, it doesnt have much of a job, so one wud hope its accurate.
i go by the digital ones at the local shell wen i get there, coz its 20mins away!.
perhaps this is a case of you get what you pay for?.

is the gauge reading as important as consistency, once you find the pressure that works best for you, and you take a reading with one of those gauges, as long as the pressure setting is repeatable with that same gauge then it should be ok.
it's not a bad thing till you throw a KLR into the mix.
those cheap ass bitches can do anything with ductape.

because at the stations people just use them and throw away...
there are sensible and fragile parts inside, with a couple of shock they'll be fucked.
then there are old components, misused, rusted...
i've seen a genius connecting the air gauge to the water... do you think it will be working again sharp after being flooded?
so buy one your own, and use that one. and sometime check the pressure in a tyre repairer place: but if the difference it's too wide just disregard it...
