    Riding trou?

Morning gents, I am wanting to get some more substantial riding trousers for adv riding, are there any particular breeds or brands that have stuck out as better than others or should I just hit TM for some cordura etc?

Want something with a bit more protection for if (>when<) I hit the ground cos it will happen, nothing surer.

Prefer something not too ventilated so the blokes don't freeze but obviously some venting or zipping for the same would be good, what does everyone here use?

    Again all good input welcome.
    Cheers Andi & Ellen

For summer comfort & protection it's hard to beat some MX pants & separate MX knee guards. I've got some Axo pants & Fox knee guards that are holding up well.

I've had a couple of sets of allegedly waterproof cordura pants for cooler weather, the RJays set were ok but leaked after a while, the Mobig set were never very waterproof & most of the zips etc on them have fallen apart. They were both cheap admittedly. I currently use a rainsuit over them when it is wet.

Check the bottom of any trousers you buy for fit over the top of dirt boots - My supposedly 'adventure style' Mobig pants don't go over the bulky top of my proper MX boots very well, especially when I tried taking the armour out of their knees & using them with my Fox knee guards instead.

    Cheers

    Heya Clint

Cheers for that, I am actually using snowboard boots as they are warm and strong, I would prefer them to be higher but they will do for the mo.

Good point raise about trou fitting over them so will make sure of this, all the gear I have seen that is "waterproof" isn't, can't beat good old external wet gear.

one of the chaps left his pants to close to the fire last weekend and it melted the knee protection pad out of shape....

Sometimes the best stuff is the cheapest in all honesty...
I have found that the Line 7 range for farmers available in RD1 suits the purpose well..
A Swandri I sometimes wear gives me the best waterproofing on top. The mittens on the bike work well, keep my hands dry too.

I have all of the DriRider clothing top and bottom but the jacket keeps me dry but in the worst of the weather isn't much cop. The pants are not any good at all but if I wear the leggings over the top they are perfect for any conditions, plus they are adjustable for the Motocross boots.

For my feet though I have found that the Columbia Tramping boots I wear ARE waterproof, I didn't get a ml of H2O inside the boots the whole weekend of the MMMMM, so that was a bonus! A liberal dose of Snowseal all over helps to prepare for the worst conditions..

For adventure riding I wear a pair of skody old Spool Pants bought 2nd hand for about $100 (they were nicer when I bought them). They have a leather patch where I melted them on my exhaust, and they ain't waterproof, but they're armoured, and for the riding I do I invariably end up soaked from puddles, and frequently can off (usually at about 2km/h), so I didn't want anything too flash.

Cordura isn't the best. You'll still have sweaty undies/legs syndrome on a cold day.Having said that,I would still wear them on a longer ride due to more protection, but once things start getting twisty and tight I'd wish I have my MX pants on.I'm sure you could lose a few kilos wearing Cordura

+1 on the MX pants and knee guards. Only way I don't end up sweating like a .... Been down the road a couple or three times in this get up as well and the MX pants seem to last really well. I still use the first pair of MX paints I brought about two years ago.

I still just wear leather trou most rides. I like having armour too so on mission rides I sometimes slide in the mx knee guards under them. It's a bit of a tight fit though.
For my next pants I'd like some armored leather, maybe even some nice well vented ones.
In the rain and/or very cold days I use over trou over the leather.

So I reckon either Dririder Rally cross or 1tonne Cordura Sports Pants

    http://www.1tonne.co.nz/index.php?pa...=&categoryid=2

    or

    http://www.morleymotorcycles.co.nz/m...nd=0&piece=370

Bit of a price difference and is it worth the difference?

Everyone I know with dririder gets wet so I will still rely on my leggings and wet jacket anyway, so it comes down to what will get better protection when I biff?

Again, input would be good especially from some with this gear.
