RIP Seddon Bennington and tramping partner

It was a surprise for me to wake this morning and find that Seddon was one of those missing in the Tararuas and then later of course I heard the bad news that he and his tramping partner had not survived.

For those that don't know already I worked for a few years at Te Papa and for the last few months I was there I reported to Seddon as our CEO. More importantly what most of you won't know is that he also had an interest in bikes. When he arrived from Pittsburg he had packed up his Ducati Monster 900 and was waiting for it to land in NZ. One of my colleagues lent him his wife's GPX250 and we went for a ride to Lake Ferry and around to Carterton and back as shown in the attached photos.

I left Te Papa a few weeks later and don't know if Seddon kept riding in NZ as I saw little of him after that, but at least he was a biker.

    RIP Seddon and Marcella.
