Mrs Oakie's bike thief is off to jail.

Well the wheels of justice move slowly but they do move. Finally, last Thursday, a young fella by the name of Joshua Stewart was sentenced to an additional months jail (on top of the 3 he has already spent there on remand) for his part in the theft of Mrs Oakie's EL250 back in September last year. Not much to say about that except that the cops did a good job and that there is some satisfaction at the outcome. His was the easy one. He fronted up and pled guilty .
His 'alledged' accomplice is maintaining his innocence. He appears on 20 March for a hearing which should be interesting as the Police have a pretty good case against him. Mrs Oakie has been summoned to appear and I'll attend as a spectator.

one of my staff was telling me today that you have to go thru a metal detector, and a bag scanner to get into Court these days ...... so if you are planning on any direct action against the party who is innocent until proven guilty you'll need one of those ceramic guns the CIA have, or glass knives.

I'm interested to know, what happened to the bike?
Also if its gone - has it been replaced by this jerks family, or have they (MOJ) sold all his possessions to replace it?

I think with the case the police have against this guy, direct action won't be necessary although I guess OJ Simpson got off so anything is possible.

The frame of the bike (all that was found) has been handed back to the insurance company. The insurance company are seeking reparation for what our claim cost them and the police have put in a claim for reparation on our behalf for what it cost us over and abouve what insurance paid us. The guy already had outstanding fines which he couldn't pay so we're not holding our breath for any money.

Funnily enough though it's not worked out too bad as she has a better bike than before (CB250FM ... aka 'Jade') which we got for a very good price so having the bike flogged, while traumatic, probably saved us money in the long run because the insurance settlement was probably about $1400 more than we would have got for a trade in on the bike sometime this year.

Glad to see a (partial) result Oakie. Not enough for the loss of security/peace of mind that you guys were put through.
As to Pex - All that was found was the stripped frame, insurance did it's thing so I doubt reparation was ordered. Or forthcoming.
Edit- Oops, I see Ins co is seeking rep. Good luck with that.
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

What time's the hearing on the 20th. I might be in town for it and it'd be fun to tell the judge Mrs Oakie was so distraught that friends have flown in from all over the country.

Might add some weight to the little snot getting more of what he so obviously deserves...

Great that some justice is happening - long time coming still but at least he got to see inside the walls, good news hope the little punk learns something.

Justice has a weird way of looking at things cause I have to admit It blows me away that he gets prison & the jerk that killed Brendon got 3mths home detention.

It makes you think - here's a kid who has been brought up to have anything and everything, without taking any responsibility for his actions, until his day comes in court... FINES - What are they really teaching people?!

Good Luck in this kid seeking to amend the wrongs he's done in the past (not just to Mrs Oakie).
If I was a judge, I'd make him spend the next 2 years chained to the back of the misses new Jade. While she drags him around the port hills trying to get her knee down!!
Lets see how he finds having someone inflict some pain on him. I mean these fines and jail terms, are they really going to do anything for anyone that gets a personal pleasure out of showing their stupidity and arrogance for the law.
