Slow drivers

In the past, on a group ride, I have passed a vehicle to only slow right down to let the large queue of bikes (and occasionally cars) to safely pass while the road is still straight.

end result was the caravan driver was delayed 30 seconds, and we all got to ride through the Hunuas unhindered.

acceptable behaviour? I still stand by it as a legitimate practice, along with not nailing it on a straight for fear of catching up with traffic in the twisties.

hmmmmm I dunno, all it would do is piss off the car/truck etc.

Our position as bikers should always be about putting us in a positive light, ie, thanking good behaviour etc.

I wouldn't slow down cars...

exactly my concern

personally, i wouldn't do it to a commercial truckie out doing his job, but we all know the sort of caravan driver who idles oblivious to the kilometers of angry families and tradesmen behind them - do unto others?

maybe they'd finally take the hint and keep left

your actions would do nothing to educate a driver to keep left etc. Also a massive generalisation that they are all idiots etc.

Driving those vehicles can be difficult, I doubt you have an idea about how much a truckie has to think about terrain and his vehicle to plan how to get up a hill etc.

When drivers keep left, let us pass etc, we should be thanking them and encouraging it, rather than piss off motorists who didn't hate or love motorcyclists before.

I see mb was talking a bout a caravan, not a truckie. I have also done this to to slow drivers in campervans in order to let let less powerful bikes have a chance of getting through. I have never needed to do it to a truckie as most truckies are very courteous to bikers anyway.

I also give a wave of thanks to those drivers who go out of their way to let bikes pass.
