    Restricted? (ready4whatever)

    hey iv booked my restricted, any tips? and can somebody tell me what i can expect, i hear I'll have to do a u-turn, true? anything else?

    Make sure you *never* exceed the speed limit, and try not to fall more than 5 km/h below it.

    Exercise a greater degree of care than you normally would.

    Make your safety movements exagerated so the examiner can easily see you are doing them.

    I Did my Restricted in May this year
    Know where your warrant and rego are, they asked me, and I couldn't find where the shop had put the "frigging warrant" (under the seat) nearly didn't get to go any further than that. No U turn for me. Did have to do a right hand turn over a main road out of town, traffic was not too heavy though. You need to do just under 100 on the open road. Round town stuff was pretty usual. Right hand turns, straight roads. Bike control and indication seemed to be what they were looking for.

    Position on the road is a good one to remember. I always kept in my mind that I should ride as if I had a pillion.

    They might give you an ear peice to wear which they give you directions.

    The testers are usualy bikers too so they want you to pass as much as you do.

    Make sure you get them to test the ear piece before getting on the bike!

    Last time I had to used one for a test it was super loud. I was riding along, they spoke and it just about blasted out my ear drum. I nearly let go of the handle bars to grip the side of my helmet (where my ear was) in pain.

    I end up tugging at my jacket (cable went up through jacket) so it ripped out of my ear. I could still hear what they were saying - just not very comfortable.

    I can still feel the pain now just thinking about it.

    its tomorrow at 2.15 wish me luck. think its suppose to piss down :-( ohwell maybe there will be less cars around?

    Basically they are testing you on whether you will be a hazard or not, speed, positon and give way rules are tantamount someone mentioned before to ride like you have a pillion, thats really good advice!

    I would add that they are also judging you ability to safely avoid threats, i know its not on the sheet and that's more of a full licence thing but they commented hard on how much i was looking around and reacting to everything that was going on (avoiding posties, old ladies at crossings etc).

    They will take you on as many twists and turns as they can to see how you handle it, all the twists and turns mean that you may not get too close to the speed limit much - this is also a trick to watch your throttle and brake control. accelerate, break and change riding positions as smooth as possible. indicate for 3 secs etc.

    And remember they want you to pass by being safe and careful and following the road rules. If you do that they will pass you

    I remember when..

    I went for my full license, back when (way back when) there were still traffic cops on bikes. I rode down to the lake front at Rotorua, was told to do some figure 8s, so round and round I go, then he gets a call over his radio - and off he goes, and I suddenly had my full license - easiest test I have ever had to do, LOL!
