Don't worry - he's got a handle on the steering wheel... a love handle, methinks.

Should mobile phones be banned for car DRIVERS?

Yes, and I thought this was already something about to be passed or some shit.

Why? I know all of you, all_of_you have come across someone who almost came in contact with your motor vehicle and never even noticed, because they're too busy 'multi-tasking'.

Read, accept, fight the fucking cellphones.

How hard is it to not answer the phone, or pull over to save someones life?

EDIT: I forgot to add that link I was telling you to all read. (Or else)

I noticed the article mentioned serious crash investigators - that was what was written on this car I saw on the motorway once, the driver of the car had a cell phone to his ear.

Drivers should at least have a hands free kit so they can keep their hands on the wheel and eyes on the road.

It so horrifies me seeing drivers struggling around roundabouts holding a cell phone. The look on their faces is almost amusing sometimes when they realise they are multitasking and messing everything up at the same time.

The trouble is we are in a western society when everyone wants everything with no accountability. Just common sense should dicatate the danger to most people, shame common sense seems rarer sometimes.

To hijack the thread a tad (sorry), I remember that not so long ago there were billboards around that said "Put your foot down to slow him down" or something similar....now there's a sexist statement!

Lets not stop at cellphones though lets ban anything that distracts you from driving, like reading a book (saw this lane splitting last year a lady reading a book propped on the steering wheel during the crawl with a coffee in hand), reading anything, eating, drinking, using a phone etc.

I was behind a guy in the weekend as he drifted across the road. It seemd he was looking down and left. I realised he was looking for a drink and not only found it but opened it and drank all at open road speeds. Down country, on a single lane road, there isn't much room for error.

This would seem the logical conclusion.

While they're at it can they also introduce a fine like they have in Aus. $150 if you don't move left on a multi lane road. Having to undertake someone because they're doing 80 in the outside lane is unsafe.

And lastly after coming back from Wellington in the weekend and getting pinged for doing 110 in a passing lane can we please do something about the motorist that sits at 80k's on a single lane then speeds up to 120 when there is a passing lane then drops back to 80 again. I was passing said dude when I got my $120 ticket. A TV campaign like, if you're taking it easy on the open road and there is a cue of cars builidng up behind you just hold your speed when you come to the passing lane so people can pass you easily would be a good start. This "let's go as fast as we can in the passing lane is a real pain in the ..." It also means unless someone is prepared to do 125k's then they can never pass you. This then contributes to people trying stupid passing moves.

It seemed like on the way back from Wellington that everytime I passed one of these people I came up on a cue with another one at the front of the pack. For me on a bike it's not so bad. But watching the lead car accelerate hard out at a passing lane each time was dissappointing. It seems they're sole purpose was to keep everyone behind them going slow. And to the cop that thinks picking cars and bikes off as they finally try and pass this person is fair game I think you're targeting the wrong people.

I've decided I'm going to argue this ticket. Mainly because I got a condesending lecture about having a problem with speeding and he made me wait a long time in the rain. My last ticket was October 07, 35 points because I thought I was doing 75 km's in a 70k zone when in fact I was in a 50k zone. So I'm now at 55 points. I think I have more of a problem with eyesight (how could I miss seeing him).

does this now mean that they will spend less time forking over tickets for doing (horror upon horror) 10k over? and actually ticketing the drivers who are hazards?
