Hey, just wanting to know if there are many people going to the Burt rally in novemeber. big groups, little groups, camping or mastercard. Two bikes from tauranga are going, direct run there and a west coast senic trip on the way back. any tips from past burters? i havnt been on a ride like this for several years.

Heading to the Magpie from Christchurch the weekend before then up the east coast to Nelson via Blenheim down the west coast taking the week off to do it.
Its not the destination that is important its the journey.

I shall be booking time off tomorrow for both the Magpie and the Burt.

Not sure what the boss will think of all these 3-4 day weekends that I will be asking for off during the summer months (especially as its the busiest time of the year).

Hopefully doing likewise - it's hard to fit in all the rallies available in the South Island each 'riding season', went to 14+ last summer, might have to pick 'n choose a bit this year.

a good ride. ive done it twice. first time was straight down and back up the east coast. the second trip i mixed it up a bit and went to nelson, across lewis pass to chch. kept to the east coast until invers. the return trip i went to wanaka then to hokitika and then across arthurs pass and back up the east. i take 2 weeks to do the trip, and that includes 2 nights in chch each way to rest up, catch up with a local friend and do a bit of op shopping.

stay at the camp grounds... all the tracks are literally a walk away except for wyndham. great way to stop drunk riding.

dont know if ill be going this year or not... have to see what my funds are doing. trying to save for a house, so trips like this might have to wait.

Follow the good weather is my advice! If it's wet on the West Coast it is usually dry on the East, and vice versa. Be flexible. It is great to go down one way and back another- make a loop or figure-eight. See more roads and country that way.

I've been to each BM- I'm sure you will enjoy the trip and the event.

I'll be heading down from Auckland. Would love to have a crew! At this stage I plan to get to welly in one day, most probably down through national park( it's shorter that way) but just as happy to do the desert rd. sleep in welly , get the real early ferry the next morning and ride down the kaikoura coast to chch. stay a night there then do an inland push through the mackenzie country, Qtown and keep on going to invers.
on the way back, as per the weather I guess, similar daily distances. preferably up the west coast. I'll keep my eye on this thread to see other's plans.

At least 4 of us in my group heading down from Wellington, will be going down on the Tuesday, and back the following Wednesday. Down the west and up the east.
I finally got my knee down! …and my shoulder …and my pillion’s head.
