does any body know what the names of the tracks are on the port hills we can ride up?
went up the rapaki yesterday - its just had gravel laid on it so not as much fun now as most of the exposed rocks (is it lava?) have been covered up. although they have added some speed bumps which u can get a bit of air on
i know there is at least one other track but im not sure where it is
Rapaki, Huntsbury, Worsleys, and the Chch side of the Bridal path are still paper roads. Ifyou want a challange go give Worsleys ago. Will be slippery as a slippery thing. All of these bar the Bridal Path are on my website. Other ones to have ago on if you like a challange are the two purple ones out on Banks Peninsular - Robinsons Bay Stock Track and Takamatua Stock Track.
Not sur if my site has gone haywire (at work) but I can't seem to get the routes anymore for the info??? You should be able to click on the line of the route to get some info and to download GPS route files.

Coming over Arthurs Pass on Thursday, I decided to pop up to a couple of the skifields for a look.
Mt Cheeseman gets my vote for the best access road, worth the side trip, with views kinda like Patagonia. Brilliant stuff.
Thanks CooneyR for the tour around Huranui and Random Spur Rd yesterday too. Great riding and nice to get off the highways for a bit.![]()
thanks for the info cooneyr - forgot about your site. havent had time to have a look but wil do soon
Does anyone know if you are allowed to ride up track behind Kennedys Bush, up behind Halwell Quarry There is a sign saying it is a public road through private land, and there is no lock on the gate. There is nothing saying you are not allowed to drive up it. Anybody know? That could be worth a look when lambing is finished
I'd always understood that one (from the end of Kenneds Bush Road to the Summit Road) to be private property or bits of it anyway. CCC website is a good place to start when trying to find this sort of stuff out.

You wont get far up Kennedys Bush, I cycled it on Saturday and there were two locked gates further in.
While we're on the subject of riding I'm looking at maybe doing the Peninsula Route Sheet Run this weekend.
Just have to check a couple of things at home to be sure which day.

Hmm - it's twisty enough I should be able to keep up on the 125 rightI quite enjoyed the run through Lees Valley on it. Pitty it maxes out at 80kph (well my mecanical sypathy thoughts kick in about then anyway). Better get printing the route sheet in case I can join you.

lol, 125, lol again.
You'll crave the power of Ktoom on the uphills but yes it's mostly a day of corners..
Just found the original thread complete with pictures and ride report scattered about (starting page 2) way back from February 2006.... here
I was thinking of skipping the challenge sections this round and just leaving my road tyres on the DR.

Yes I've been having probs as well with your most xcellent website but thought the trouble to be my end.Can get route details off a few but most give no info regardless how hard I smash the mouse on the desk. Would be most grateful to have your info available again now I know it may not be me.
thanks

Strange, at a glance I can still save them to my PC and open them in mapsource fine. I'll try direct to GPS when I get home.
Can you tell us one particular one that doesn't work or do they all not work for you?
Noting your Operating System/Windows version and Browser would probably be a good idea too.

Mmmm power - the KTM has heaps of that LOL. I was thinking the 125 would have been fun to punt around the challenge sections but I'll bring the 950 either way.
As TA said the GPX files seem to open up OK and I can download them (well the tests I've done anyway) and open them with Mapsource. TA's comment about more info would help us. Can you also please tell us which GPS you are using?

Hey cooneyr, the site's not working correctly when using Internet Explorer 8.
Version 8.0.6001.18702 is the version I have to be specific at work with XP Pro.
BUT...
Everything is fine when using Internet Explorer 7,
version 7.0.5730.11 is on my laptop with XP Home.
Everything is also working fine when using Firefox 3.5.2 on both machines.
