    Thumbs down Binned it!

    Had my first off today.

    Time: About 3:30pm
Where: The coast just before Maraetai heading north

Was riding through the Maraetai twists along the coast when I hit a pothole or bump through a corner and got the wobblies, which sent me into the ditch and side on to the clay cliff at about 70km/h. Was trying to restore control until the bike got back on the road and gripped like a mo fo, instantly throwing my off like a bucking bronco! I tumbled around and slid along the road for about 10 metres with the bike in front of me...coming to rest just short of the rock-infested drop down to the beach!

    Damage

Bike: Broken left had wing mirror, both left indicators, scratches on front fairing (was running it naked, i.e. no side fairings thank god), fucked foot peg and clutch lever. Otherwise my baby is ok :-) I even rode it home! Pants are write offs as they took most of the knee impact, and jacket all torn up too. Will upload pictures soon.

Me: Grazed wrists and bruising on ribcage, left elbow and left knee, and a damaged ego! Find it bloody difficult to walk now but hoping a sleep will sort that out.

End result: Absolutely gutted about dropped her, but glad she's not too bad. Lesson learnt and happy I didn't injure myself too bad! Thanking all gods and guardian angels for my gear - it could have been much, much worse.

A couple of late nights in the garage ought to put things right.

    Now, where's my beer!

If you can make it on Kiwibiker you can make it anywhere.

Really? I thought 70km was slow for a crash, considering most riders come off at around 100 (don't they?)

    And yes Im very lucky!

70km/h is more than fast enough during an accident to get some pretty decent injuries. Sounds like a great learning experience.

My old bike was written off at "only" 30kph crash. Also I woudn't think it's safe to jump off from a moving vehicle at 50kph even with the full gear on

    ......
You'll have to look up your own records for that data. From anecdotal evidence I've always thought most accidents happened at less than 70 kmh.

Sorry about the crash, I got a spare CBR250rr mirror and some other random small insignificant bits if you want. Free of charge, PM if you're interested.

Seems like a pretty poor attempt. Most on here would have had their knee down, on a 25kph corner doing at least 70 kph when suddenly 4wd cut them off.

    Good that your ok tho.

Yeah, you have to watch that stretch mate - there's often rocks on the corners from the cliff, and sometimes if there's been a recent rock fall that's been cleared away by the council, there's still a thin layer on top of the seal that can be quite slippery. From memory it's quite clay-ish there too, which means slippery times to be had by all.

What a bad way to end the weekend!

(Also, I just stole Biker Bargain's last MC22 footpeg for my NC30 - as they're $164ish retail, you might have a bit of fun hunting for some second-hand ones (There's a pair on TM at the moment for 75 each, which is THREE TIMES the price they ought to be, being second-hand).
