    1. If you are at the front at the lights, spend one second looking both ways just as you start to move off. Hopefully you will spot the person running through on the red. Look to your right first, then left.

    2. I ride on the right hand side of the right lane of the motorway. This means I can see past the cars in front of me, it is easy to take to the gap between the car in front and the barrier in an urgent stop situation to stop getting hit from behind, it avoids the oils and liquids and rubbish that end up in the middle of the lane and it means I only have to worry about traffic coming at me from the left, not both sides.

    3. I always have a quick check over my shoulder before changing lanes, not just relying on the mirrors.

    If riding hard, stop before you start getting too tired.
