ZX9 engine mounting bolt

Looking for something like:...

Kawasaki Part Number: 92153-1182
Description BOLT, FLANGED, 10 X 252

That is, it's the rear-lower engine mounting bolt off a ZX9.

It's a 10 mm diameter bolt, has a flanged head on it (14 mm spanner-sized), is 252 mm long and has about 25 mm of thread.

Have got a quote from local bike shop (Kawasaki can supply ex Japan), but wonder if someone has a spare, or is wrecking such a bike...

No idea what it's worth 2nd hand. (So I put $1.23, NOT $123.00!)

They want $33 (I think that's all-up).

...and I'd have to wait a bit for it to arrive.

Have also priced-up threaded rod with the idea that I'd "make" a bolt. That's $22 per metre.

Engine mount bolts tend to be high grade bolts. Threaded rods tends to be low grade. Given that often the engine forms part of the chassis I wouldn't use threaded rod - unless you can be certain it's at least grade 8 or better.

That $22/m rod was stainless steel. I was told (not by a qualified engineer or anything) that that's essentially high grade.

Still, that's why I'm hoping to find an actual engine bolt...

Ah nah.
SS is generally better than a grade 4.8 bolt, but not as strong as a grade 8.8 bolt. It's not unusual to see grade 10.9 bolts in engine mount applications.

My experience is that it can be tricky to find any automotive bolts let alone an odd ball like that. Best bet I am aware of is here. They would be worth a call even if they don't list it as they know where to find shit anyway. But I would bet if they don't have it, you will either have to wait for Kawasaki (2 months) or get one from a wrecker. If you do go the wrecker route, save yourself smoe hassle and ring Victoria Motorcycle Wreckers in Aus. The right part will arrive in a couple of days.

Also took a punt just now and asked about the bolts on a TradeMe auction of bits off a wrecked ZX14. We'll see.

I wouldn't use a threaded rod.

A)You really need a sleeve for the engine, or else there is basically half the amount of metal the engine is resting on.
B)The grade is properly too low.

I'd actually turn one down if you can't get a similar bolt (at least 8.8) from EDL or a similar place.

I sent emails out this morning and got replies from both Coastal Fasteners (used them before, they're good) and EDL.

(Neither had it in stock, but both promised overnight delivery.)

EDL got in first so have ordered a bolt. Less than $7.

It's grade 8.8 and is 260 mm long. I've got the space for it, so that should be OK. The head isn't flanged, but I think a washer will be fine.

I'll have my belly pan installed by Christmas. Woot.
