Through the tail of a comet!

Well we bought another one. This time it was a bargain in four cardboard boxes, and what amounts to my first rebuild project.

We found it with its' engine dismantled, but it mostly looked to be there, and nothing completely wrecked, so we trailered it home and got right to work.

Rear tyre is bald, front tyre is has a funny wriggle to it. Rear brake master cylinder seized. Both levers ball missing. No wof. Rego run out (not dereg).

Engine back together, after a whole day was wasted when we discovered the front and rear cams are different. :slap:

This will be my daughters bike, although she wants something much smarter-looking. Once she is done with her slow-speed training and is pass the "drop it" stage, the comet will be the family hack/loaner/learner dogs-body bike and she will move on to a faired bike.

So we got it going and went for a burn.. The comet is amusing to ride, and goes really well. I have done plenty of time on the GT250R and I thought the comet was its' poor cousin, but it's not at all - the comet is plenty amusing to ride - more of an antelope instead of a cheetah. It's fun.

So for under 1k we have a great learner bike. Thanks to Underwood and Wilkins for assistance with transport.

Next project? Haven't found one yet, but I will.

Just curious - why was it in bits?

It worked when you just put it back together...?

Congrats on the good deal, and having the nous to make it work, by the way.
Measure once, cut twice. Practice makes perfect.

He said it felt low on power. It certainly does not feel low on power now.. It goes bloody well.

Yup. We slapped it together and it went. Hehe, funny ay.

Thanks. It was good fun. Gunna do it again - will try sticking to late model bikes that are not worn to hell and beyond though, and with cheap parts easily available. I have plenty of mechanical experience though - not recommended for newbies unless they have tools a-plenty, a mechanic mate, and money to make mistakes.

Old enough to have a Hyosung collapse underneath her by the sounds of things.

Not at all.. It was cheap. I have lots of spares. I can swap stuff off my other bikes to fault-find, I know a bit about hyos, they are cheap to crash and fix, and I can double my money on it when I sell it. Sounds solid ay?
