SH16 Kaukapakapa petrol station closing

Due to the age of the tanks, the station is closing. It's been on the cards for a while but yesterday I noticed a sign saying "Gas - 30c off a litre". The closest station is about 5k's away in Waitoki which is on Kahikatea Road (heading back to Auck)

Luckily the pub is not closing down but it is for sale.

Bummer. That was quite a good place to gas up before starting the main ride, or even for just meeting up with people for the start of a ride.

There was a article in Sat Dominion about age of tanks and desiel being polluted ending up with the desiel bug which in the end was costing the poor oil companies large amounts of compensation,owing to motors cooking,

Lady there told me last week that last supply was to be Friday, shop staying open while they build new gas station at northern end of town, ready in 8 months she said. Dunno if they will still do the ole KKK lighters but!

Shit. I'm a checkout chick and I've had the owners come in a few times stocking up for their store. Very nice people. Will be sad to see that pet bird outside the store disappear.
