The Pirelli MT90 A/T is still the best value tyre I've run on the 640A so far. Cheapest $/km of everything, but it is the most road-oriented, the others have all been at least semi-knobblies.

Do some searching on advrider.com for reviews of the Kenda K270. Ppl either love it or hate it. To give you an idea of the grip they have, you can peel into a 65km/h corner on dry grippy tar at 110km/h, and flick of your hips will make the back end step out, a little throttle will hold it out. I reckon I spent more time sideways on that tyre than pointed straight ahead!! Can be fun but I can't recommend it for general use. As mentioned, there are other tyres very similar so there's simply no need to bother with the K270. The IRC GP1 is one tyre that is almost identical but (reportedly) doesn't have the ill-handling.

The Mitas E-07 is next on my all-purpose tyre test list, and I'll get an MT90 A/T for long road trips (partly 'cos I have a matching front). If you are at all thinking about going exploring on some gravel, I'd suggest the E-07 as a good compromise between road & trail.
