I was in Rolling Thunder today. Some bloody nice bikes but my favourite is the stripped-down Dyna model with black rims, high bars, single seat. Bloody nice.

You'd think HD could get by on the bikes alone without all the HOG bullshit. I suspect their corny marketing puts off as many as it encourages. Shame as some will miss-out on nice bikes just because they hate the image.

Yup, noticed that myself, too many do it "'cos I look/are cool" and not enough "'cos I want to for ME"

A lot of really great folk in the 2nd catagory though.

Yep. They're the people who can always separate what something is from what it means.

I think thats why there is so much Harley bashing. HD marketing reaping a fortune out of the add on crap, selling to those who like the biker image. Then you have those who are the true bikers rebelling because they have taken over the rebel image. Then you get those that cant afford a HD knocking them

Maybe a few but Harleys are much cheaper these days than they've been in years. That Dyna I was admiring today was $22,000 new.

i cant afford one, but would never, ever knock one. some of the riders on the other hand. lol. nah, most harley riders are good, genuine guys who love the life. the ones who ride for the brand however are idiots.
theres a guy at work who bought a brand new harley earlier this year. i think hes ridden it twice? spends half its time on the battery charger. pathetic really. spend that much money on a bike and then dont ride it. sheesh. hes got pamphlets for next years HOG rally. im betting he takes the car or flies cos its too far for him to ride.

That's a bloody waste. Harleys are built to cross continents not for incontinents.

The HD marketing thing is really aimed at the Americans who tends to sensationalise everything and are very excitable. You only have to watch an episode of Dr. Phil, Oprah or Ellen DeGeneris and see them all carry on like whoopin' 'n hollerin' nutbars, lappin' it up.

As for the image thing, well who cares why people buy their bikes - it's their business, but I bought mine to ride whenever I can, not as a trophy.

He's talking about the american liberal doley market; those that sit at home watch daytime tv and try to sue the bike mfr's when they fall off (that's the American Honda buyer).

Typical American Harley owner is Republican, male in his 40's, income over $75k US, and owns three or more firearms.
