    unexperienced + wheelie = crash...

haha, well its not really worth calling a crash, more like a slow speed fall!. i was on a quiet back country road, straight for about 5ks. and i was practising(?) my wheelies! i had my right foot on the back of my seat, and tried it a couple of times and only just got the front up, so i ballsed up and gave a few more revs and got it up real high almost tooo far. and i was like yep, thats cool time to go back down cos im going off the road. and sure enough as soon as the wheel touch down i was heading for a the edge of the road..no time for brakes (duno what i was thinking) and onto a little downward sloping grass run and and binned the bike at about 5ks. luckily no one saw me cos it was more embaressing(?) then anything!!!

im fine for all thoes concernd, and my bike got about 3-4 cracks in the fairing and the front brake lever was slightly bent, and a bit grassy!

and my ego got a bit of a blow! wont be trying wheelies for a while...well i might take the fairing off...

    Arrow Mate.

You need a practice bike for wheelies. The sort of thing that you would not be worried if you broke...

Be thankful that you didn't come down on the road - the grass bank was a God-send! Glad you're okay!

Hey cammo, I don't understand why on earth you had your foot on the seat?? Have you already mastered doing wheelies with both feet on the pegs? If not, try that first.

    What that Guy said...

Also instead of having your foot on the seat, go for the pillion pegs if your more comfortable learning a standup. Also KEEP YOUR RIGHT FOOT ON THE REAR BREAK, use your left foot back on the pillion peg. The other tip I've heard lots about is covering the front brakes and using those in an emergency. You may think it doesn't work because the front wheel is in the air. But it does, as the onewheelers here can attest. Some one smarter than I may like to explain the actual physics behind it. Be warned though, it brings the front down "freakin fast".

yeah sounds a bit wrong huh, i had my shin resting on the pillion seat to put my weight back as far as possible. next time tho as my dad suggested, i will put my feet on the pillong foot rests and one on my brake for sure, and sit futher back, like up on my pillion seat. ud understand why if you had a zzr, lol.

Sounds like a recipe for disaster! You can pretty much wheelie ANY motorcycle in first gear using a bit of clutch therapy...how exactly are you trying to wheelie your ZZR apart from shifting the weight distribution?

just as you said, a bit o clutch therapy. i remember i think flyin saying that he goes bout 10ks in first the revs it to like 10k and drops the clutch and pulls up like crazy. so ive just been trying that, not heaps of weight distribution yet tho! i tihnk ill leave it a while first then move my weight around a bit more.

My advice for getting the front up in the ZZR (yes they do it rather easy).

Roll at about 5kmph with your FEET ON THE PEG's cannot stress that enough.
Then quickly pull in the clutch give it 12k (or before redline, I forgot wat it was it was so long ago all of 2 months lol) and let it out quick if you hit it in right your front is gonna come up quick they get up real high infact I think I was on about a 30deg angle or sumin.

But dont try anything other than that on the ZZR the suspension is shit.

I had the same sorta incident, me and ant - I noticed ant comming back from town he wheelied the scooter so I wheelied the bike and crashed on road fooken hurt both me and the bike, but live and learn mate take it easy on the wheelies.

Well practise makes perfect, and the more you practise the more you will get a 'feel' for the engine and be able to 'know' when the clutch should be dropped resulting in hopefully a smooth rising (and landing) of the front wheel...next stage is holding it up there longer than 2 seconds, then there's changing gears, etc.

It might pay you to wait for a while like you say and then buy a gruntier bike that won't require so much effort to ride on one wheel!

Oh mate, commiserations on your 'fall'. I like you have had only one, and while a low speed 'stupid' off is better for the bike/rider, it comes with a heafy amount of ego/pride damage

Is the ZZR a racey wee thing? Not that I'm gonna try but was wondering if my 250 pull a wheelie (without screwing the ring out).

Cheers, and I think weighing nearly 100kgs I'd have to be on the passenger seat to get the nose up, and the fuel tank for a stoppie

HEEEY!!! the ZZR's have 40hp standard and mines got a full JMCA 2-1 pipe (outta tuna at the mo tho.....) great sports tourer bikes, yeah should be about the same to get up as a gsx250

Weight transfer is really important, I stand on the pegs (not right up but pretty much all my weight) lean back a lil and give the bars a tug as i drop the clutch, poping it up is no worries, i've gotta work on keeping it there and putting it down nicely...... first few bigguns gave me a frights and i put it down hard, injuring my special bits in the process........ although i can now hold it a while and touh down faiirly gently most the time, ZZR's ARE NOT made for doing wheelies and i'm gunna go save up and get ma fukd forks rebuilt and a new wheel bearing...
The world stands aside to let anyone pass who knows where he is going....
