you gas up, keep the receipt and write down on it the km's you've done since you last filled up. Then just divide the kilometres by how many litres you put in the tank. Provided you filled the tank up the same amount each time, this will be a reasonably accurate measure of how many km per litre your bike does.
I try to fill up when the fuel needle gets to the quarter mark and then reset the trip guage. From my Blackbird, I suppose get about 16Km to a Litre. Thats if I done my maths right.

Yep, I saw that thread, but I was hoping for fuel economy rather than how far people get per tank of gas which is what most people were posting. With km/litre it is easier to compare different bikes.
In the other thread the best fuel economy looks like it was jrandom with his FXR150 at 25km/L.
But I still find it surprising that 250cc bikes get far worse fuel economy than some larger bikes. It means many 250cc bikes aren't good commuters at all if you are looking at it from a fuel economy perspective. And they aren't much good for highway riding/hooning either because they lack the power (well, mine does. zxr250's cbr250's etc do a bit better).

Well lets see I have a 18 litre tank and it costs me (before the tax hike) roughly 17 bucks to fill. Now on that it took me just under $40 to get down to wellington. Now for all you math wizzes out there tell me what the K's per litre is.

My 91 zxr 250c only gets a pathetic 14-15 km/l .. meanwhile its getting tuned now after carburation problems where it would not start at all.... hopefully it will increase the efficiency alot.

Interesting that the efficiency of smaller engines is low, rather suprising too i must say.

My old VT250 would do 300km per tank but I can't remember what capacity the tank was (probably around 12L).

The work Nordie will go 18-20K/L.

    The fun Nordie gets 15K/L.

The fun Nordie with a small Givi screen gets 18-19K/L.

The XR250 gets about 6 months to the tank - must be about 50-60K/L at least.

I managed an incredible 8km/L once!!!

Think that was more my calculations than me running the bike to death

I could get 65 to 70 mpg on my older GS. My K1 is about the same. Think that's somewhere around 24-25 kl.

I think that a 500 twin is probably the ideal size for economy. Doesn't need the revs of the smaller fours, and is reasonably light compared to the bigger (non sports) bikes. Still fast enough to see off the cages.

    Smile 20.78 km l

I went from, home North of Napier, to Wellington on Thursday last week. One up on the way down with all the leathers for my daughter boots bla bla bla. Picked her up and filled the pack and tank bag with her gear and two up home. I did not go over 140 on the way down and stayed around 120 on the way home. The traffic out of Wellington was unreal and it was lane spitting for a long time but we did a fuel check and it worked out to be
20.78 Km per litre for the hole trip. We ride a 96 GSX-R 750V
I can halve that when out playing with the big bikes so it depends what I am doing.

Don't think it will be this good on the 10th in Taupo.

Yep that sounds spot on. We did an East cape trip a few years ago and took 3 85-86 Gixxers. The most I could get out of mine was 210 km and it was dry. The others were close to that but one only did 200 max. We had to work the fuel out so we didn't get stranded. Made it hard on the touring bikes that had to wait for us to fill up every time we found gas. Think we paid $1.50 for fuel at Hicks Bay. Seemed a lot then but almost normal now

    revs uses gas.....

so more revs = more gas....

hence the more lazy the engine the lesser the gas.

so a 250 or 400 ish twin makes sense..... or even singles.... thump thump thump thump

And guess what.... revs kills engines too!

Pretty fucken good at the moment, it's been in Deaths garage for a while with half the engine missing. But on the now rare occasions i do ride it, feul ecomony is piss poor, although i have lowered the gearing slightly but it was shit to start with. Dont know many twins with a good feul range?

Worse i had the feul light on at 90km into a full tank at manfeild once, wouldn't want to do that to often. Ah who am i kidding of course i would. On the road i made 35km outta a full tank once, all be it because the remaining petrol leaked out of the gapping holes in the tank after i chucked it down the road at 200kph, wonder what the km/litre/damage/$$$ would've been on that trip. Damn
GSXR wiping the shit that is that Honda, Yamaha and Kawasaki off the road since '85'

The 1100 averages around 16k/l. Best I had was 18.2k/l. Main tank (18lt) gives about 285k range. See, girls, bigger is better.
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?
