Spidy Sense - Ignore it at your peril

Say what you like about "spidy sense" - it works for me...

Heading South on Maungatautari Rd this morning - its narrow, windy and very rural.

Part way down, haven't seen a car all the way. Approaching an uphill right hander where a side road intersects on my left. The little voice pipes up - "take this one easy." So I wrap it off a little. And as I approach, a van coming the other way roars right into the side road, at high speed, without even checking the road. If I had not slowed down guess where I would have been...

Whilst I would never rely on the absence of the spidy sense to assume a clear road, I have learned over the years NEVER to ignore it when it does pipe up...it has been right on the button too many times.

Apart from that, a really nice ride this morning.

In saying that, all the other voices can be confusing.....

I get it with cops- dunno why or how- just get the feeling 'time to be on the 100 mark' and sure enough sneaky cops or cameras materialise in seconds or minutes-

It aint foolproof but happens too often
I like your term 'spidey sense' nice one

Well, what can anyone who'se ridden or driven for any length of time say, they'd be lying if they said the spidy doesn't exist. It DOES! and whoa betide the fool who doesn't listen to it.
Nice to hear that I'm not the only one with an inner voice/s the trick is to kinow which ones to listen too.LOL.

Ignore the voices in your head, at your own peril!

Hang on. Perhaps that should be reworded...

This is usually just selective recall.

You remembered this particular incident because something did happen, which cemented it as a memory. However, the other occasions where nothing happened despite premonitions, usually get forgotten...

Not dissing you, but you've been riding since April this year...When you've been riding for a few years, see whether you feel differently.
The biker's sixth sense is very real, and I'd hazard a guess that it has a better than 50/50 strike rate too. But there's plenty of times when it doesn't kick in - then you're buggered, especially if you aren't continually scanning and planning.
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

    Had a situation on Saturday.

I was 3rd out of a dozen or so out Pongoroa way.

Came around a corner to a short uphill straight. Saw the 2 bikes in front of me, usually I would of nailed it and blasted uphill, but for some reason did'nt.
A farmer in a Landcruiser I think, towing a large trailer was pulling out of a hidden gate. He saw me and still pulled out.
I managed to stop or slow down quick ok, but if I had of done what I would of normally done, I would of hit the lot, and no doubt be sucking on the kumara.

There's always a bloody realist around somewhere isn't there!!!

You are exactly correct. But there's no fun in your viewpoint. I much prefer to think its magic myself....

I wrote off my VFR750 when I ignored the 'spidey sense'.
    ... and that's what I think.

    Or summat.

    Or maybe not...

    Spidey?

Dunno if it's spidey but I know what you mean. Coming out of Coromandel a few weeks back, just overtaking a Rav 4. As I came alongside the Rav a road came into view on my right - it cuts down through a cutting and is quite hard to see until you're close to it.

Spidey or whoever pipes up: "Abort overtake." So I did, braked and slid back behind the Rav.

Almost immediately a tradesperson - white van, meaty black bullbar, pulls up at the intersection, looks right for traffic but not left where we were and without stopping swings out onto the main road towards Coro opposite direction to us - he pulled onto a clear road thanks to me vacating it immediately before.

    Ida been dead.

Boy I'm glad it's just limited to bikers, because when I almost took out that biker coming the other way by crossing the center line at 150km/ph the other day, I got nothing

I suspect that this is a mindless troll. In the unlikely event that it is true, then you are a prime tosser and deserve the title Knob-end Cager of the Week. And I can guarantee that karma will take care of you.
