Amazing the manufacturer is so blatant about it. The MTM logo style would have to be a copyright infringement, clear attempt to poach KTM reputation. Styling can be a tricky issue but the whole package must be enough ammo for any copyright laywer. Seller's description of this foul contraption as a 'KTM copy' is a serious misrepresentation as well. (I bet that ugly lump of a fuel cap doesn't leak. lol)

What a waste of planets raw materials.

there was an article in june issue of adb about the chinese crf copy- basically there only needs to be 15% difference between the bikes - this could be as insignificant as colur shading of the casting of the cases, cylinder head etc, slightly different engine mount points, frame welding, plastic contours, carbs, engine side covers etc

if there is 15% diffencer then its not breaching copyright on a bike

but advertising it as a ktm not a mtm or whatever it is may be a different story

If it is a copy of intellectual property wouldn't that 15% rule then mean every mechanical design unique to the KTM would have to be 24 degrees out! LOL would it even run then!

Just done a quick serch through TM as I'm looking for an old classic for not a lot of money...
And it appears nobody remembers exactly what year bikes were made.

    Quick examples: 1978ish XL125 advertised as a 1983...
    1980 ish XL185 advertised as a 1988! Okay, might be an 85....

I'm sure there are many more.... it is a case of buyer beware....

It is a shame people can't get their facts straight though.......

It may well stem from the fact many off road bikes aren't registered, therefore records of age are easily lost......

Yeah, apart from the frame number stamped on them!

Well I've pinged KTM NZ. will be interesting to see what, if anything happens.

If that 15% caper is the only standard then there's no protection for anything because it removes too much common sense from the equation. A wheel is a wheel, and a footpeg is a footpeg, but branding and identity is surely something else altogether.

This particular assemblage of plastic & metal is like a virus. Forget 15%, there is clearly 100% intention to rip off a well known companies styling & branding - and their hard-earned reputation along with it. I find it really hard to believe they can get away with it (let alone the shameless audacity to do it the first place). You don't see lots of Coca-Cola brands with 15% variations. OK, a flavoured sugar drink not a particularly good comparison, but they're obviously able to protect their identity.

I reckon it's a serious worry that a country like China (massive + authoritarian regime) is becoming so powerful. They're obviously utterly ruthless & have no compunction at all in plundering everything in sight.
I'm definitely no socialist but the world should have learned a solid lesson about where unchecked free market philosophy in financial systems has led to - virtual collapse. Where the hell will we ALL be when the rest of the world has gone out of business and has no money to buy chinese stuff?

Hopefully one day the people of china will wake up and think there is more to life than work work work, must make money, must make money, and actually take time out to have some fun. Then they might realise they don't make quality products to have fun on. It is pleasing to see some of the asian kids at school breaking out of their parents strict education regime and loosen up a little..it is a start!
